Flyers 6....UGH!! Topic

I think that giving up Versteeg, Bob, and Carle alone is too much unless you are getting in return people like Ovechkin and/or Chara. Add in a top 10 pick to what we give away, that is WAY too much.

I am sure we will give you Luongo + our first for anyone????

My thoughts -

Versteeg ($3.1 mil with 1 year remaining)  is a guy that will not fetch as much as we gave up to get him (a 1 first round pick).  He is too small and doesn't fit our system of play.  That said he is a good player, just not for us.

Bob ($1.75 mil with 2 seasons left) is a stud - but he is also not our answer IMO.  He and Crawford had similar #s but the difference was crawford seemed so cool under pressure.  Crawford made big saves (and shutouts) and literally carried the hawks to the playoffs and almost past Vancouver.  Bob looks good at times, but when we needed it most he looks like a fish out of water - flopping around out of position until the puck finds the net. Sure he has great lateral movement but he also lets too many softies get through.  I'm just not sure he has superstar status in him.... dealing him now at 23 years old with 50 games under his belt is probably the best we will ever get.

Carle ($3.6 mil with 1 season remaining) is gone this season no matter what imo because we need to clear space to sign Bryzgalov (assuming he signs).  Why not throw him in for the cap space as long as we get some similar/better, less expensive d-men (kulikov and gudbranson) to replace him.  We are lacking depth on D anyways with Pronger and his injuries.

The 8th pick was thrown in because no way we get Gudbranson (6'3", 201 lbs - 3rd overall pick in the 2010 draft) w/o it.  The kid will be a stud and we need youth once Pronger and Kimmo are gone.  Supposedly this a weak draft anyways.
Just my thoughts.  I think the bigger stretch is Carter for Voracek + Filatov + the 1st.

ha ha .  I was telling someone today that vancouver should just buy out his contract (no matter what the cost) and just roll with Cory as the franchise goalie.  the more I hear Luongo cry the more I can't stand the canucks.... I hate boston but I almost hate seeing Luongo win a stanley cup more... almost.

The Sabres are going to want to talk to the Flyers about Carter, too.

They have the last three AHL Rookies-of-the-Year (all forwards), two-thirds of Canada's top line at the WJC turning pro, and young defensemen (Gragnani, Weber, Butler, Sekera, plus two former #1s in the AHL, and a couple more turning pro) all over the place.

Looking for two centers, one a top-six, and a veteran defenseman. Carter and Brad Richards names keep coming up in these parts.

moy, a couple of things about the Panthers trade.

1. A young goalie has no value for them because they already have their goaltender of the future in Jacob Markstrom.
2. With so little depth in the system on defense, there is no way they give up their future top defense pair. Maybe, MAYBE 1 of them, but not both.

Dale Tallon won't take Versteeg just because he's a former Hawk. If there's one thing he did well in Chicago, it was trading (Versteeg for Brandon Bochenski, Tuomo Ruutu for Ladd, Wisniewski for Sami Pahlsson, etc...).

yeah - its definitely a long shot.

Couple things though.... One that Florida needs to get to the $30mil mark in payroll and they have $12mil to go. Carle (3.6mil, 26 years old), Versteeg (3.1mil, 25 years old), and Bob (1.75mil, 23 years old) would help. Florida would get 3 young players with upside and on short contracts so they could trade at the deadline, re-sign them, or let them go FA if they don't work out.

Two - Bob has 50 NHL games under his belt and 2 seasons under contract at $1.75. He's be a great alternative to Vokoun who is a UFA while Markstrom (who will be a stud) develops. Sergei should have trade value if he performs well in Florida so it would not be a terrible move.

Three - I really like Gudbranson, and you are right that Florida probably wouldn't part with both.... even with the 8th pick in the draft and a DMan Carle in return. I would either offer up another pick (although we don't have a ton, maybe a 2nd rounder next season) to get both players or settle for another Defensive prospect instead of Kulikov. Worse case scenario we only get Gudbranson and Oskars Bartulis is the 7th D-Man on the roster in '11-12. I'd be ok with that ;)

Sounds like NYI and Edmonton are also looking to get Carter.

I still doubt Homer trades the guy. He has some sort of mancrush on #17.

Heh. Apparently Jonathan Bernier himself started a rumor on some radio show that if bryz doesn't sign with the flyers then they will trade for him. Bernier would be an awesome fit ;)

So Flyers fans.....If Bryzgalov does not sign?

Would you trade Pronger for Luongo straight-up??  Cap hit is pretty even, and you could re-sign Carle??

juskay, I'll give you credit for working that imaginary trade hotline so hopefully and feverishly.

Luongo wouldn't last 2 minutes on philly

Capgeek is reporting the probable lower cap limit is going to be $48 mil - so Florida will have to pick up $30 mil to get there. Looks like Vokoun is going FA (ESPN Insider) as well.  I wouldn't mind seeing Bobrovsky, Versteeg, and Carle packaged and dealt there for some defensive help, assuming Bryz signs.   Fingers crossed.
6/20/2011 10:49 AM
Wow. Bryz rumors are $50mil/7yrs. I hope the flyers aren't that desperate.

Sounds like Bryz and Pronger will get along just well in Philly, at least in regards to the media.  Both speak their minds.
