Troubleshooting:

***If you can't fill your roster, scrubs are allowed with the following stipulations:
-retired NHL players only
-165000 salary
-0 goals & D<20 for skaters

***If your team's roster changes between now and the beginning of the sim-season, you MUST adapt it. Note the risks with trades (especially Heatley and/or those teams that are currently over the salary cap), but also the possible benefits of free agent signings.

***After this league has filled, the owners whose teams miss the salary cap by more than 20 million will be given the chance to draft one player from the teams that weren't picked. First come, first served after the league fills.

***Each team can draft a key prospect. Ie, draft another NHL player and I will change his name to a prospect of your franchise. The stats player must not be an active NHLer, and the player must earn less than 3mil (exceptions apply for the top 3 drafts of 2009). The New York Islanders may draft Joe Malone as John Tavares. The Tampa Bay Lightning may draft Alex Smith as Victor Hedman. The Colorado Avalanche may draft Leo Lamoureux as Matt Duchene.

How about the deep rookie pool such as Tavares, Hedman, Schenn, Kane etc..? Can they pick a replacement player such as Turgeon to replace Tavares? That would be nice lol.

I'm in, Ottawa Senators for me, I'll deal with Dany Yashin.

You're probably right.
I just noticed that the largest team salary is just under $60 million.
A couple teams are about $58 mil.
a few are about $55 mil.
...most of the others average $43 million.

That's what I'm guessing.
Unless he wants us to wait till the 2009/10 playoffs (next spring) when the new stats come out.

What I do know is that he wants us to use the 2009/10 contract arrangements, even if we're going to be using the 2008/09 stats.

And I'll pick the following team (less drama;)

Put me down for the Vancouver Canucks Al

If I take the Blackhawks, they only have 1 goalie on the roster. Does that mean my backup goalie falls under the scrub rule of being 165K and a retired player?

Hello all, sorry about the delay.

Sens are yours, synthpunk. They're looking pretty solid right now with the addition of Kovalev.

Canadiens are yours, winnerpeg. I'm curious to see how they do in simulation.

ninetynine, I've already selected the Canucks as my choice. I know it sucks for the commish to choose first, but I didn't want to start a league like this without being the Canucks or the Canadiens (my two favourite teams). Is there another team you'd be interested in?

bb_icetime, yes, you will be stuck with a 165k scrub as your backup goaltender. If you so choose, you could draft a second 165k scrub goalie to have a bit of depth between the pipes. Trades are on, though, so you could try to trade for someone else's backup - in fact, I'm sure the teams that have the option to do so will probably be selecting three goaltenders, and that would facilitate a trade.

As for rules:

You can twist any player to any year of that player's career. So no, you're not restricted to the '08-'09 stats.

Rookies will still play at below average - they usually take a little while to heat up. Just look at the Leafs' Luke Schenn last year. Granted, he didn't have a team around him, but he was by no means spectacular.

I'll take the Bruins

Oh.
In that case, would you please limit the cap to anywhere from $55 mil - $60 mil (preferably no higher than $58 mil), so that if people want, they could try to have the most recent stats team without getting killed at the games?
If not, it's ok cuz the Canadiens brought on some great players who had much better seasons than before last year! Hehe!!!

tnuhnai67, the Bruins are yours.

As for the cap limit, it was a toss-up between 75mil and 100mil. I'm going to stick with 100mil for now, but if I get a bunch of owners telling me they want 75mil as the cap, I'm certainly open to the possibility! 60mil, however, seems a little too low...
