WCAA Phone Call Topic

So I got a phone call from the WCAA today saying that I am under investigation. The funny part is I only offered gifts to two guys, and neither of them accepted them. I actually have a decent team this year, I take it this means I wont make the post season. Anyone know exactly what will happen?

I wish WCAA Police had access to the forums. That would make their investigation quite quick since you just told them you did it...

I think we had already established I did that in the last forum on the topic...

Your right zhawks.. Since Shane came out and admitted his offense, maybe he should be allowed to have a self-imposed punishment.

I believe that whether the player accepts or not is irrelevant, once you pull the trigger you have cheated!!

is it "really" cheating if the player doesnt accept the gift?

If I take steroids but it doesn't turn me into barry bonds is it still cheating? I'd say yea. Failed cheating, but still cheating.

That's not necessarily the same thing, depending on the actual rule. Either way, it's certainly distinguishable.

If, by definition, the act of offering a gift is cheating, then yes, there has been a violation. If there must be acceptance, then no cheating. It's all in the construction of the rules, whatever they may be.

is it really a crime if you shoot at someone but (due to bad aim) dont hit them?

Depends. Were you trying to hit someone? What were the circumstances? Assuming you meant that the shooter was intending to hit someone but didn't, then yes, that would be an attempt crime.

Is there an a violation for attempted gift-giving? I'm not saying there isn't, but you can tell me that there is?

there is. its illegal.

as to the OP. you will get probation. BUT that will not include a postseason ban. it just means that if you get caught again while on probation, then the next postseason you will be banned.

I would assume that you are right, but like most things in the world, a person's evidence-less opinion means very little.

This is the closest thing I could find in NCAA (I am assuming we are talking about RL):

"Arrangements by an institution that involve a material benefit for a high school, preparatory school or two-year college coach, or for any other individual responsible for teaching or directing an activity in which a prospective student-athlete is involved, (e.g., the provision of a gift such as a tangible item bearing the institution's insignia, the offer to pay a portion of the coach's or other individual's personal expenses, compensation based on the number of campers sent to an institution's camp, or an arrangement to provide transportation for the coach or other individual) are prohibited."

Now, I would assume that "arranging" a gift for a student includes attempting to give him a gift, but I guess I'm not 100% sure of that.

Of course, it makes sense that it would be illegal, and I'm sure that it is, but it's always nice to have actual facts on your side.

Isack24, that is a good reference but in this case mrpolo09 was talking about HD. It is a WCAA violation to offer booster gifts even if they are not accepted. There is statistically slim chance of not being penalized but in all likelihood the violator will be caught and punished.

As far as I know, the violations and associated penalties are not in writing anywhere but it has happened so many times that the evidence of proof speaks for itself.
