if a top team challenges you to a road game, what do you guys do:

1 - always accept

2 - never accept

3 - accept based on some conditional criteria

4 - counter offer?

5- something else?

I used to just accept, but have increasingly found guys will keep scheduling me away. I am a lazy scheduler, but I have started to challenge some of my away games to home games the following season - funny how many reject it - or even worse, just let them sit there.

I am almost to the point, I may just play good teams at home, and play sims on the road, other than trusted coaches who I know will honor a home and home agreement.

REal life, a team like UWGB, must agree to play UW Madison 4 times at madison to get one UWGB game.

I have written a ticket up asking for home and home, 1 for 1, I did get a seble / tarek level response saying it is a great idea, but not exactly feasible the way the code is now written.

cmon OR ..you know the answer to this

3 - accept based on some conditional criteria

Scheduling can be as important as recruiting, game planning, and practice planning. Some people call it "gaming the system". I prefer to think of it as another layer of strategy in the game.

I hate that. I'd rather be rejected so I can look elsewhere. Coach rogers at Barry U. (Wooden) wrote me, "I don't schedule until after recruiting but really want to play you. I'll accept then." That was very classy.

But I'm a conditional, #3, coach as well. I like to have a good mix of home and away games, with the tougher opponents at home.

I think you have to have your own reasons, but my answer is always #3. I will play 1-2 games on the road vs. top teams, because I don't like to leave noncon with less than a 6-4 record. And I play 1-2 games vs. top level teams at home, and then 5-6 games are against teams slightly worse than me with a mix of home and away, and usually 1-2 easy wins.

I try to play mostly the same coaches every season. (for the most part) I try to swap hme/road every season to be fair. If I find a coach unwilling to do the same then ill look for another. I would love to play all road games except in d1. Ive been pretty lucky to find some ongoing rivalries

Yeah, i have a lot of coaches that I play every year and try to switch home/away, but sometimes I forget or they do.

yea - I guess I do know the answer, the nature of the conditional criteria would have made for a better ?, real life, this 'gaming' the system is extremely important, some top teams game it pretty masterfully, I think the badgers do a great job of it, often their RPI is far better than their team real life

I just look at last seasons schedule and then do the opposite-hme/away. But if I am new to the world or division I play all away games until i build up those relationships.

Yeah, it's definitely #3 for me. You have to schedule in a way that makes sense based on what you're expecting from your team (and conference) the following season.

I'm a big fan of the home-and-home with good coaches who I'm friendly with. When I used to have my DII Naismith dynasty, I played practically the same coaches every season -- fun and challenging to build up a long-term rivalry against those other top schools, and oftentimes I'd run into one (or more) again in the NT. One of the first things I did when I grabbed a team again was sitemail OR and propose a yearly alternating game.

If I want it to become a home-and-home, I'll sitemail the coach first to make sure he's OK with that and isn't gonna leave me standing around w. my pants around my ankles when I ask him to come to our place. And again, you have a greater degree of confidence in that when it's a coach that you're friendly with.

i will not be the pawn anymore in someon's SOS plan. once i try and get the home game the following season and they reject or actually have the balls to counter they will never be scheduled with my team again, home or away.

i schedule coaches i know or at least trust to schedule their other 9 games in a competitive fashion.

I amended my home and home ticket, to ask for a button by the game, to automatically schedule a return match, once the season rolls over, if you wanted ten return matches, you could submit your challenges for the following season in 5-10 seconds!

I am more than happy to play an away game, but when I schedule better teams, I generally assume they want to play me on the road (since they will probably win anyway) and it would enhance their rpi more. I like to play slightly worse teams on on the road and equal teams in home and home deals. i don't always get it right every year (may do 2 road games in a row), but the guys i try and schedule year in and year out seem to think its fine.

i pretty much always accept an offer (if its from a decent team). and will reject right away if i don't think its a good fit, as I like you guys, hate stuff hanging out there.

i do like your idea of a home and home automatic scheduler OR. makes everybodys life easier.

I never schedule. Just accept all offers. Though, once every 7 seasons or so when I'm bored I will do something stupid. Like schedule reverse alphabetically named teams to all road games.

Edit: Some world the same coaches do all the work making home/away with me.

I like all road games, but I also schd tough and often end up with home/away games vrs the same coaches which is fine with me. I know playing these coaches will give me a top 10 SOS so I don't need the RPI boost of all roadies vrs them. I played coaches like murdskin for over a year RL time back and fourth, and multiple other coaches in div II now for the last 4+ seasons. I've always ended the season with an SOS in the top 5.
