Should I go after D1 drop downs if I have a C+ prestige?

Yes. Absolutely.

Keep in mind that the guys you see as dropdowns/pulldowns are likely already on the DII lists of the high prestige DII teams.

Drop downs are the only way to recruit in the lower levels.

Pull downs are def the way to go, and in div II you should have the money to do it. After you build that prestige up a little bit then you'll mix more towards drop downs/pull downs with the better talent open to you. At C+ prestige your just going to get overs that everyone else passed on. Sure, you could find some solid players who slipped through the crack, but its not the best way at getting the best players you can.

At C- prestige in my first D2 season in Tark, what kind of dropdowns will I see? I find that a lot of the D1 players are ranked. No chance a ranked player drops, right? Very few people will drop to me probably, right? Call a few locals who are D1 and unranked and see if I'm a backup option?

You might be able to get a few players ranked in the 180-200 range with C-, but not very likely. I was able to do that when I took over a bad D2 program. Just make a lot of calls and go from there. Stay local, probably within 200-300 miles tops.

People told me that there's a chance I could get a ranked SF if I'm patient enough. If I call around I'll know right away, right? If he tells me to go to hell then I don't have a chance, but if I'm a backup he might eventually drop or be okay to be pulled down, yea?

At D3 I know that I have no problem beating out D2 Sim AI schools-- are D1 Sim AI schools tougher to beat out at D2 when you're trying to get someone's attention to pull someone down?

If they are 70 miles or closer, which is the magic number, you could definitely land a ranked SF.

Is there a general amount of money to spend on a "pull down" that will sway them?

I've wasted a ton of money on guys sending scouting visits, etc. when they are within 200 miles and they don't budge when they are "backup" options.

I believe its a certain number of evals, but I haven't been in D2 since they made the change.

What?????? But you and the other coaches in your D2 conference were signing 1 star HS players with a C+ prestige, remember? So.......why should he settle for overs?

Sorry, since you never responded in the other thread, I just couldn't resist..........

It just depends if they are getting attention from other schools or not. Usually it is about 10-20 evals which can range from 1700 to 2500, but I've had a few times where it took me over 35 evals because a div I team or another div II school was doing the same thing

They were all pull downs. No ranked recruits were dropping to us with that prestige
10/7/2009 10:07 PM
So, you're still trying to convince everyone here that even with a C+ prestige, you were managing to pull down 1 star HS recruits? Even when EVERY coach with an ounce of credibility that responded in that thread said that it wasn't possible?

It's okay to admit you were wrong, even if it was a first for you.......
10/7/2009 10:24 PM
Hopefully I have at least an ounce of credibility, and I'd say that there is a better chance of Rush Limbaugh fellating a goat on national television than of pulling down a 1-star HS player with a C+ prestige DII team.
