#8 RPI, 7 seed? Topic

Not me, I'm an 11 seed with the #37 RPI, but I gotta play them in the first round. What the frig! Got a fellow 11 seed with a 28 RPI while a guy with 53 sits at a 9 seed, a 42 RPI has a 7 and the reverse whopper is a team with a 31 RPI sitting on a 4 seed.

(#33 RPI has a 5 seed, while 35 RPI is a 12 seed, btw.)

#8 RPI gets a seven and #31 gets a 4... I'm not seeing it.

A seven plays a ten seed, and a six plays an eleven so some numbers are crossed, but I had an eleven rpi going in in d2 Allen last year. Got upset in the conf semi but still had won 8 of last ten, a great road record and won 3 of four vs. top 5 rpi teams. I got a 6 seed. Far too much value is placed on the conf tournament with seedings imo.

What are the records. Seeding is not only about RPI, and it shouldn't be.

Exactly. WIS also considers record vs top 10/50/100 and other factors. HD seeding actually matches up better on RPI than the NCAA.

I just got the 3rd seed. #1 sos, #4 RPI, 21 wins, won my CT, 9-1 in the last 10 and 6 in a row. I had a lot of quality wins because of my #1 sos. In non conf the worst team I played was a 80 RPI team and I went 6-4 vrs them. In conf play only 3 teams were above 100 RPI and I went 12 and 4 there. I really expected a #1 seed when I won my CT...

I agree to a certain extent, but something has been changed recently to give more weight to record and I think it is slanted a bit too much now. All it does is favor the teams that don't schedule hard or play in weak conferences.

St Joe's, the poorly seeded #8 rpi has some logic for a poor seed.

lost to a 200 rpi 6-21 sim team, and is 5-5 on the road this year. And they lost in the 1st rnd of the CT which is always overweighted.

Sure, as it should. It's not that hard to go 10-0 against medicore sims in barren conferences in WIS, and end up with a decent SoS/RPI. That would never fly in RL.

I know what you're saying, but you really thought you were going to get a 1 with 8 losses?

Yeah, I have before.

A team with 8 losses is never going to get a top 2 seed. EVER.

I would have thought that too, but Colorado St in Tark got a 1 seed with 9 losses and a 7 RPI this past season....

I'll throw out my old rule of thumb:

(RPI + RPI + RANKING) / 12 = SEED

I know it's been repeated many times that ranking has no direct bearing on tourney seed, but I'm guessing the calculation of ranking is not that far different than some of the selection criteria. I've used it for years and it's usually fairly accurate.

Iguana, seble said that ranking does play a role in seeds.
