What are your thoughts of a team purposely tanking?

Situation is this:

We have a player who has had a team that has lost now for 4 seasons. Currently his AAA team is better then his ML team. I would be ok with this but his whole pitching staff consists of guys who should have never made the majors in any way. (overall 50 guys).

Is this wrong? He argues his minor leaguers arent ready to come up but that doesnt mean he shouldnt get free agents who actually are worthy of ML.

It is wrong.

Is it a private league?

I don't see anyone on his entire staff (let along his "whole pitching staff") who has an OVR rating of 50. He does have a 41 & a 49, but the 41 is an old guy (42 & a former all-star) in the last year of a deal and the other guy was just promoted from AAA. In any event, combined they have totaled only ~ 40 IP.

In S 12, the owner in question had a winning percentage of .432 for the season. In S 14, the OP has a winning percentage of .446 through 139 games.

OP, are you tanking?

This is my first season ever playing so previous seasons of my team do not relate to me.

I think that guy is tanking, and it's wrong. I say raise a stink!

This very season, you have a winning percentage of .446, on pace to win only a small handful of games more than the owner you are calling out did in S 12. If you think *he* was tanking in S12, isn't is a fair question whether *you* are tanking in S14?

HUH?????

I am not questioning what he did in S12. I am questioning what he is going now in S14 and the pattern created from the past seasons.

I personally have tried to put the best team I could on the field. From what I see he does not.

I have mostly heard so far people agree with me that this is wrong. If so, then what are my options to do something to correct this problem?

Pike, with all due respect, your ML SS has 46 errors in 139 games and your ML CF has 19 errors, 12 minus plays, and a glove rating over 20 points below recommendations.

If you really think that the best team you can put on the field includes those 2 guys playing those 2 positions, then I frankly don't know that you're qualified to judge whether another owner is doing what is best for *his* franchise.

As far as options go, if it's a private league you can ***** and moan as you have been doing in World chat and hope the commish sides with you and doesn't approve the other guy at rollover. Or you can leave the World yourself. If it's a public league, leaving really becomes your only option.

Either way though, I'd suggest you get your own franchise in order before you worry about how other people are running theirs.

Wow, a powerful defense of the tanker from zbrent. Or, if not a defense exactly, at least an aggressive attempt at a red herring. Just wow.

Not a defense, really, if the guy *is* tanking, but when the initial post comes from a "new owner" and the characterization of the situation is, at best, misleading - well, call me a bit suspicious, perhaps.

I also think it's generally a good idea not to throw stones if you live in a glass house.

lostpike also has $14M in MLB contracts sitting in AAA and has a $29M Intl budget

I'm not saying that the guys in AAA with the contracts are stellar, or that spending $29M (+$13M lost in transfer) in Intls is wrong ... but when those things happen and you are under .500, it is tough to point the finger at someone else's management style

I especially enjoy that lostpike is saying here and in world chat that the other owner in question should have spent money on FAs to put out a competitive team ... yet lostpike has transferred $26M in payroll budget to Ints (losing $13M) when he himself could have "easily" spent that money on FAs to field a competitive team

I will note that the owner lostpike is calling a tanker does appear to be unconcerned with winning at the MLB level ... just adding to zbrent's point that lostpike is living in a glass house

and not for nuthin, but it is simply silly how much Intl budget is sitting in that world ... I'm guessing there is some HAK world history that is causing the have-nots to tank to get back to balance

Prior to this thread Lostpike had only posted 6x, I would think he will not be posting again for a while. When the sharks smell blood in the water, it's best not to go for a swim.
