Blind Collegeate Draft League (9 in) Topic

Despite the unwieldy name, the concept of this league is simple. Pick four colleges, and one auxiliary college, but don't disclose them publicly. Everyone else in the league will also pick four colleges (plus one) and will submit their picks to a league non-participant so that each set of picks is made "blind", that is, without knowledge of selections made by other participants.

Once all the picks have been made, the non-participant will reveal them. If you picked a college and no one else selected that institution, you can select players you want from that school without restrictions. However, if more than one participant selects a school, you will select players on a draft basis.

The draft order will be randomized and serpentine. The draft will continue until all participants decide that they do not wish to make more selections from that school.

EXAMPLE: in our league, three players ("X", "Y", and "Z") select University of Kansas. The randomized draft order determines that the players will select in the order "X-Z-Y".

ROUND 1:
Player "X": Wilt Chamberlain
Player "Z": Paul Pierce
Player "Y": Bill Bridges

Round 2:
Player "Y": Clyde Lovellette
Player "Z": PASS
Player "X": PASS

Round 3:
Player "Y": PASS

At this point, Kansas is closed for picks.

You must select at least one player from your four selected institutions. In the event that this is impossible (i.e. two players pick a school with only one qualified NBA player), the following will occur:

1. A coin flip will determine who wins the right to the school's player.
2. The loser of the coin flip will be assigned to their auxilliary school selection.

As long as you fill the one-pick requirement for all of your schools, you can pick as many players from a given school as you choose. So that means a 9-1-1-1 distribution is possible, or a 4-4-4-4. Whatever works.

For the purposes of this league, high schoolers and international players are considered (obviously very strong) independent schools.

RULES: $47 million cap, no WW, no clones, no rookies.

I will try this. When you say high-school'ers are "Independents", does that mean you have to pick "Independents" as one of your choices, or you have to pick the specific high-school or international player by name?

Meaning that "High School" and "Internationals" are counted like schools.

I.e.

UCLA
Duke
Kansas
"High School"
"International"

Looking forward!

This sounds remarkably fun to try. I'd like in.

nice concept, devizier! tired of the other ho-hum college leagues... the draft, though, will be a bit difficult to run i would think (time slots and stuff). would be a shot-gun style or a snake, or what? how do 24 owners draft when many aren't even in the same draft?

anyway... IN!

I confess I had to read this a couple times to make sure I understood it, but I'm in if you can get it going.

If I grasp the concept correctly, there would need to be separate drafts run for each school selected by multiple owners. This would make for quite an interesting logistical and strategic mess. Would all the drafts be concurrent? I'd be going mad wondering whether to take Drexler from Houston, or hold out for the hope of getting Jordan from NC, thereby running the risk of getting neither.

i'm in too - def. a puzzler...

The draft would be actually pretty simple:

Multiple drafts (i.e. one for every school), serpentine style.
Time slots at an hour each. That means simultaneous drafts, but since I can't imagine more than a handful of picks for each one it should be easy to take care of.

Glad to have you guys in, though!

Just curious what is meant by aux college? (Wisconsin Green Bay?)

All players must come from these 5 schools? If so, the draft process will be longer due to possibly wanting 2 or 3 players from say UConn.

Just pointing out that the season will be over before it begins for several owners who get multiple bad draft locations.

I like the challenging idea and would prolly be in.

well, not sure if it's that simple... u know what's gonna happen: "hey, i got skipped! i didn't know i was up in that draft over there... i thought i was supposed to wait for this draft over here..." lol. anyway, u'r gonna have to be on top of it, and get some needed help from the rest of us. either way, i think the drafting would be fun!

Auxiliary college is the one you pick in the rare event that more people pick a college than there are NBA players available from that school.

Let's say 4 people like a school with 3 players with qualified NBA minutes. The ones who get to select from that school will be determined randomly. The odd one out will have that college replaced by their auxiliary selection.

Odds of this being needed are very close to nil. The point of this is to prevent people from getting iced out of one of their selections.

As far as getting bad draft positions, I think picking 4 colleges should give people enough flexibility to get at least one or two good players. Obviously there'll be a lot of strategy involved.

Anyhow, glad to have you in (I think?)!

"Obviously there'll be a lot of strategy involved."

agreed! that's the best part of this theme, choosing those 4 schools carefully... is UCLA, NC, Duke, and High-Schoolers (or MSU) the best strategy? i don't think it is. perhaps a couple of them, or maybe none of them.

this is quite interesting. i've got two of the schools figured out already.

aux... i thought u meant the french word, badja. my bad.
