Have 1st pick of draft, wanted to take pitcher, but not thrilled with selections. This may be best guy -

Paul Coke

How much will splits hurt him?

Projects to 22 DUR, 98 STM, 99 CTRL, 72 VLHB, 48 VRHB, 33 VEL, 88 GB/FB, 89 P1, 82 P2, 81 P3, 66 P4, 31 P5, 66 MU

Under no circumstances should he be taken #1 overall. I'd feel lucky to draft him 15th overall.

Take the best hitter and trade him at rollover for a pitcher.

Another option:

Henry Kent

Projects to 26 DUR, 69 STM, 92 CNTRL, 61 VL, 79 VR, 32 VEL, 50 GB/FB, 80 P1, 75 P2, 80 P3, 79 P4, 42 P5

And another: Although I don't know how I feel taking a RP 1st pick:

Zach Reddick

Projects to 80 DUR, 24 STM, 96 CNTL, 90 VL, 83 VR, 92 VEL, 91 GB/FB, 97 P1, 84 P2

You really need to give makeup ratings if you expect people to be able to even halfways accurately project a player's value.

Sorry, forgot them on last 2. Kent is 94, Reddick is 69.

Kent and Coke are just barely good enough to be top 10 picks. Reddick is good, but seriously, why take a RELIEF pitcher with the FIRST pick in the draft? The guy can give you 90 innings in a season. I wouldn't take a reliever #1 overall unless he damn near had 100/100 splits and the dur/stam combo that would allow him to pitch 120+ innings (40 stam and 80 dur type). Those kinds of guys are rare.

The first pick is so important. Don't blow it on less than spectacular talent. There are probably 1 or 2 much better starting pitchers that you haven't scouted that will go in the top 6 picks. Take the best hitter available and trade him for one of those pitchers, or else look to last season's draft for a top pitcher.

Agreed that these don't look like #1 pitchers. I'd definitely be looking for a can't miss bat if these are the three best arms.

I think Reddick is pretty good, but it's my personal philosophy that relief pitchers are like kickers in the NFL. Yeah, everybody needs a good kicker, but you don't go drafting them #1 overall.

Agreed. Reddick is the best of the three, but have to figure there's a real good slugger, perhaps capable of handling a key defensive position (C, 2B, SS, 3B, CF).

There are -

Junior Torres

projected 86 CON, 85 POW, 85 vL, 72 vR, 78 EYE. 68 range, so he's not a SS, but glove and arm are in 80s, so he can play 3rd very well. 91 makeup, 71 stamina (little low?)

Or

Coco Hentgen

projected 69 CON, 84 POW, 78 vL, 93 vR, 78 EYE. 81 range, 77 glove, 55 AS, 70 AA. 64 makeup. stamina 83.

With a 71 ST, Torres probably could only give you 500 PAs. Otherwise, he'd be a very nice pick.

Hentgen, with the real nice vR, might be your guy. If he comes close to his projections, he'd be a solid defensive 2B. What's his speed and baserunning?
2/1/2010 11:25 PM
72 speed, 75 baserunning.
2/1/2010 11:28 PM
What arm does he throw with?

I never look at makeup and have so far had zero problems devloping players.
2/2/2010 8:33 AM
I like Hentgen over any of these guys...
