Public league we have a new owner who is clearly finding his way in this game. No offense to him, because I was there a couple seasons ago. He already had a trade vetoed because it was newb trade rape, and now in my daily checking of WW I see he has waived Mack Kendall . Not the best pitcher in the world, but given his team very valuable. I trade chatted him and explained my opinion on not putting a guy like that on waiver wire until last resort. Should I call attention to this in the league chat or let it go?

does he want to dump the salary?

Im not sure what his intentions were. He trade chated me back and said he wanted to put him in AAA. Even if he wanted to dump his salary WW isnt the way to do it. I would bet if he put him up for trade he would have some decent offers. Again, wont get him multiple stud prospects, but with our pitching in our world he should be able to get a solid prospect or two in return.

I thought you couldn't waive players with options remaining? That must be part of the new, "cant remove guys from the 40-man roster without clearing waivers first" update.

And yes, demoting and then waiving that guy is stupid and the new owner is clearly not sure what he's doing or he's purposely screwing up the franchise.

Offer to help him out and teach him the ropes or if he doesn't trust you being in the same league have him find another mentor to help him learn the game.

If he ignores all attempts to help him, then he's either arrogant and stupid or a tanker.

I've offered to help him in trade chat.. my overall question is should I call attention to it in world chat?

We are in free agency period right now, so there are some teams who will have the 6 million available to them to claim him. I dont have the money so I am not benefiting from him waiving the guy (and my WW priority wouldnt put me in a spot to get him). I would prefer the guy go unclaimed and give him the ability to resign him, but I doubt that is going to happen..

If you want to remove him from the 40, he can/must be waived.

Then why would you doubt his intentions? Do you and he have some sort of history?

Is it your responsibility? Do you and he have a history? Has your world never had a newbie fumbling around? Did you just want to embarrass him in the forums?

When the shoe is on the other foot do you see how easy and unfair it can be to doubt someone's intentions without good reason?

Yes, oriolemagic, get lectured by a guy whose reputation must be so terrible he only posts under an alias.

I'm not doubting his intentions but I don't think they are wise intentions. We have no history, not about that at all.. My intentions in chat would be to somehow get this player back for him. Sure Its a lesson, but doesn't this hurt the world? What if he waived 4 more players like him?
2/3/2010 5:29 PM
The only way you're going to get the player back on the guy's team is to get someone with the highest waiver slot who has money to sign the guy on board, then announce on the world chat that he's being claimed and then traded back for a nominal value, so the trade-back doesn't get vetoed.

It's almost impossible to get the guy through waivers, because even if guys want to do the right thing, it's hard to risk that your division rival with a lower waiver priority will be equally honorable.

Of course, before any of that happens, you're going to have to convince the newb that it was a mistake to waive this player.

I still see more harm than good in publicly outing him. Maybe at this point you could ask for some discrete coaching from your commish to the new guy. Commishes are supposed to be useful, right? Not just strut around in the forums like peacocks?
2/3/2010 6:32 PM
Can you read snake? He has already stated that it is a public world, which means no commish!
2/3/2010 9:21 PM
how about if you trade a guy while his waiver status is pending? can that be done? i currently have a guy on waivers that noone is going to claim but i have an owner who is willing to take on the player if i give him a prospect to go along with him. im guessing ill have to wait until he clears waivers but i thought id ask.
2/4/2010 11:07 AM
I was going to suggest that he just make a plea that he's a n00b, didn't know what he was doing, and beg that all owners let the waiver go thru. But since someone already tried to trade rape him, I guess that probably would fly.

Looks like Mack Kendall cleared waivers, making much of this conversation moot.
