Stupid Conference Championship Topic

Sorry gotta rant here.

Won 2 times with Queens U. over Longwood.

79-46 at Longwood
67-51 vs Longwood

Then comes the conference championship.

I get blown out 69-52 what the heck?

Gosh dang it I hate this game sometimes.

geezus f'ing A

what the hell do you guys want?

If team A is rated overall 80 pts better than Team B, then they win every game?

If team A is that much better they should always win by 20-30pts?

a team can lose by 30, then beat the same team by 30.

Sh*t happens!

a bad shooting night, a great shooting night, butter fingers, etc, etc, etc, etc . . . . .

thats not even taking into account coaching adjustments. Humans can change gameplans.

sorry, rant over. not directed at you schroeder. you *could* have a legit gripe. Didnt even check out the game. But this type of thread finds its way into the forums at least once a day, and its stupid

Yup.

it just seems that coaches want some tight little range. Like if one team is significantly better than another.... on a bad night they win by 20. on an average night they win by 25. on a good night they win by 30.

not going to happen, ever.

All I said is I gotta rant. I realize a lot of things can happen. Just sucked to loose the conference championship game after running the table is all. As well as winning every one of the games by 20+ and quite a few by 50+ points. Conference games that is.

I feel your pain, schroed. In Knight I went 15-1 in conference and then lost to the #4 seed in my first CT game, even after I had beaten them a couple days earlier by 31. Had a season low in FG%, and season highs in TO and PF. Just bad luck, I guess, but it caused me to miss the NT.

Ya I was lucky and had a high RPI and ranking to let me coast into the NT.

I remember in 1993 when Kentucky lost to Tennessee (with AA candidate Allan Houston) in Knoxville on some last-second shenanigans. They played again just a week or so later in the SEC tournament. Kentucky won 101-41. Allan Houston scored a whopping 3 points if I recall correctly, worst game of his career.

That's a real-life example of what I see complained about often in HD.

Your SG put up the best game of his life with 58 points on my best player at my place(Clayton St.). Until that game, he hadn't put up over 15. Who should of been more angry, you because you lost 1 out of 3 games against a conference opponent or me after your guy became Jordan-like on my team.. Just saying
2/17/2010 4:19 PM
Haha, ya I drastically changed my game plan for you though. I went if I remember correctly that game like 90% through him. I haven't been that high on him since the last couple games of non-con since i played you.

Ya, its not the end of the world. I really wasn't that worried I just wanted my school to be back on top for Overall Conference Tourney Champs is all. Were tied at 8 a piece with another school.

Ya this isn't exactly even close to the same though. That was one game where they blew someone out. In my case its reversed. I went though the whole conference play and played the team already 2 times. Beat everyone by 20+ except the one game I beat that team by 16 instead. Then I ended up losing by that much.

Oh well, I just hope I can pull out a win tonight! It would be my first NT win ever as a coach!

you went uptempo against a faster, more athletic pressing team. who also has very good defensive ratings. and they played a +1. your downfall was turnovers, which given the previous, is more like the rule than the exception. additionally, you shot poorly, which is also not surprising (for the same reasons). on top of that, given the quality of the team you are playing, there is a pretty good chance they made some improvements since your first two games.

good luck! that first NT win is a big landmark in a coach's career :)

Ya I think I should just give up on this game. I can't even come close to winning in the post season. I can smoke along all season and as soon as I play even an okay team in the post season I choke and lose.
2/18/2010 1:13 AM
aww, come on now schroedess. don't take it too hard. you've only played 12 seasons, thats really not that many. on top of that, you came up against a pretty good team in the tournament - and lmob is a talented coach! he put in some time in d2 tark's great lakes valley conference, one of the best d2 conferences of the modern era, and he gave me a run for my money twice a season :) so there is NO shame in losing that game.

really, you should look upon your regular season success with fondness. your team, on paper, is not as good as you got them to perform in the regular season. i say that in a good way - you over achieved! there is a trend though, that some teams tend to play better in the NT, like the one you played - the coach tends to take a good look at his team before the NT, and usually the under performers in the regular season play better in the NT than the rest of the season. meanwhile, the over performers have less room to go up, so they stay about the same. and you fell right into that - you over performed, and played a team who under performed. you were unquestionably the under-dog in that game, and that is nothing against you. you were just a victim of circumstance! stay with it, and you will get what you have coming to you, all in good time :) take pride in the fact that you had a good season, got a solid seed, and took your team dancing in back-to-back seasons. you are on the right track! if you were having fun before the loss tonight, you certainly shouldn't let that spoil it for you! there is too much volatility in a single game to let single games get to you... you have to let them go, and look at the big picture :)
