Cementing Master-Blaster Topic

the current master-blaster league is 58 games into the season. the parity is stout. even with uva's, (pacific) sexual napalm team (.776), 8 of his 13 losses have come from primarily the midwest (loaded from top to bottom) and the eastern divs (where dh555 rules with onslaughts of 3's. however, uva is eating alive his divisional foes at a 27-3 clip (burp!).

therefore, i think the overall concept of the league, where the owners draft by position (pre-determined positions - 100% eligible -whether it's pg's in the first round then sf's in the 2nd, or even centers going 1st or in 4th rounds, etc.) worked well. drafting mandatory positions at the same time with the other owners was a challenge. it seems to shift the focus to eyeing the other guy's roster more.

the draft order was determined in the first season by first-come-first-served. that was ok since it was the first season. i think a second season should be determined the same as the ODL (i agree with gary) with an owner choosing closer to 1st or closer to 24th. I think the owner's order of finish the previous season would determine when he gets to choose his "closer" request.

the draft order of the owners seems to become more important as soon as the league knows what order the positions will be selected. this is what i see as the priority in getting right. but am unsure of how to proceed. a random selection by positions? that idea creates a lot more mystery and challenge and luck than would a set framework of like this year: SF-1st rnd, PF-2nd, PG-3rd, SG-4th and C-5th with the 6th picking 2 backups at the same time (no more than 2600 mins ea.)

i think the league needs a new name. (BPD) By-Position Draft.

maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea once in awhile to have a tri-commish draft tourney where an owner enters 3 teams: one in the odl (coley commish), one in the funk (ncih commish), and one in the bpd (scud commish). prize funds to be awarded, etc.

of course, there's always option 3 where nobody gives a crap about the league and it dies... lol (in a long line of deaths).

I'd repeat the season using the same specs, exactly, including the bench spots.

i'm sorta in agreemement with u, devizier. the position slots were pretty good.... 1st-SF, 2nd-PF, 3rd-PG, 4th-SG, 5th-C, 6th-2 backups.

seemed pretty fair. i would be concerned if the 1st and 3rd slots turned out to be C then PF. big advantage there for the early guys.

scud...dont worry about option 3....i think most would agree this is a league worth joining again...even if people drop i think it would get eventually filled

i like the new name and the idea for the tourney...count me in

i agree with using odl rules for draft order....but you should have the option of choosing 12th or anywhere in the middle if thats where you prefer

position slots seems to be the only thing that needs debate imo....i would be in favor of keeping it random...i think the top picks are going to have an advantage no matter what the order...this year had the first pick getting first shot at sf(most loaded position when its the first pos drafted) pg(you get a choice of the few elite pgs after the sf round) and c(wilt)...that trio alone makes it an automatic playoff team(if not for his division i think emp would have over 40 wins)...the 6th round does a good job of balancing the teams out since its 47 mil and the teams closer to 24 will have a better chance to have better depth....i think mixing it up every year will keep it fresh and make owners use a different strategy each time

I think I agree with dh on every point. I don't have a strong feeling about how draft position is set - ODL-style is fine by me.

I do like the idea of continuing to randomize the sequence of positions.

many good suggestions, dh, thanks. yeah, sure, no problem with an pwner wanting to choose to draft in the middle of the snake, as does the odl as well.

random order, eh? lol. i like it. would certainly add a twist to the entire draft. let's see what others say.

I am diffently in!!! One request can I atleast be in another division than UVA he wore my *** out in BOWIS (I think atleast 3 divisions) an now a great league like this and bam There he is again!! ;0 Just kidding by far the best new league that has been brought up.

I often get stuck in uva's division. He often has two teams going, though, so it's like a 1/12 shot instead of 1/24. Or maybe 1/11 instead of 1/23. I don't know. Anyway.

I like the league's concept and will likely be interested in joining. depends on how many leagues I'm in at the time, of course, but yea.

Great league, lots of challanges in team building. My only concern would be with the 1st and 3rd round selections. If centers and power forwards get those slots i believe the balance of the draft would be lost. Just a thought .... game on!

my vote is for randomization of positions.

I'm honestly up for whatever brutal fate the randomization of position order hands out, because to me the uncertainty and hand-wringing is all part of the fun - having to rise to the challenge and make the best of whatever circumstances you've been handed. (But then, I'm an afficionado of the Joes Not Pros league, which is all about that...)

Agree with gary and brad.

Also, some of the draft choices here were stunning. To see SIM stud Barros drafted 12th was a real head scratcher! Also a good owner will always find the "hidden gems" as commish pointed out. Fun league, I'd have to be in again!
