DIII Dynasty Rankings Topic

Ok, I know this has been tried in other worlds and figured I would give it a shot using my own formula. I took all the teams in Allen in D3 and calculated dynasty rankings using a formula for postseason success. Pts were awarded for NT and PI appearances and increased based on your performance. NT appearances weighted heaver than PI appearances. I took the last 5 years and the criteria to be included is simply 3 postseason appearances (NT or PI) in the last 5 years. Below are the results as well as calculations on top conferences (only listed ones with 3+ teams included in here). Let me know what you think.

1. Goucher

Nice job calloway, I certainly like your formula!!!

I like the premise, but considering I made the Sweet 16 the last 2 years in a row (at Nazareth), finished both seasons with a RPI of 15, and was ranked 14 two seasons ago & 7 last season, I figured it would have been a little higher than 32 for Nazareth.

Yeah, but he took 5 years of data to make it... Your 3 years years prior included just 1 NT and a bad, losing season in one of them two...

Two years shouldn't make a program, but 32 is still pretty dang good in my opinion for that short time at the helm...

yeah. how i ranked them was not incredibly sophisticated but i looked at 5 years worth of data and consistency is what gets you to the top. im sure i can tweak the formula as I go forward so if anyone else sees issues as well let me know. I may put additional weight on recent performance as well to reward the up and commers as nazareth was.

Goucher was easily the winner although if any of the top few up there win the NT this year, they could overtake you, that's for sure as I put heavy weight on winning the NC.

My mistake Calloway, I misread your original message and thought you were using the last 3 years of data, not the 5 you used.

Great work Calloway - I love this kind of analysis. In my humble opinion, I think NC's might be weighted a little heavy - but that very well may be sour grapes since I have yet to ascend to such greatness.

Keep up the great work - it makes it so much more fun.

Thanks for the input guys. Please keep it coming. Anything you can see, I can work with it to make it better. I am sure there are some issues and if you see them, I can work to correct them.

I do have NC's as very important although red, I did have a slight tweak to it that would have put you at #2 and really nipping on Goucher's heels after Goucher's PI last year. Still the 4 years prior were insane for Goucher though which keep them at #1. Kind of like UNC in bball this year to be honest. I will look into the NC allotment though as well.

The coach at whitworth and I are brothers. I wonder if we are the only brother tandem that made it in the top ten dynasties ranking.

I coach Linfield

My brother coaches Chestnut Hill so we are close to it...

And my cousin runs the "squeggee" offense at Hood...
