09-10 draft league - FULL Topic

we are now full

ok...still no rush to set everything in stone since we probably still have a few weeks before the release...but heres what im planning for the draft....

-once we have our 24 owners in place i will use random selection to determine the draft order

-owners can then choose in order the slot selection they prefer...id like to have all this set before the release comes out if possible

-once the players are released the owner with the first pick can go whenever hes ready(shouldnt have much of a decision)...im thinking we go 2-3 days after the release without a clock to give everyone enough time to get ready, check out the new players, and formulate a draft strategy, all while still having the draft move forward..the first couple picks should be no brainers anyway

-after that we go on a clock with draft times exactly like the odl...same drafting etiquette as well...if we are not out of the first round then im all for slys suggestion that if you miss your time slot in the first round you are given the highest salaried player to keep it moving

-of course no rookies or ww

-no salary cap

-the order of the rounds will go ABBABBABABAB

I will definitely play if you start a league, was waiting for someone to. My only request, in the form of a plead, is that we use a A-B-B format for the draft, otherwise only the first few picks have a real chance to win.

I'm in a lot of leagues atm but by the time the players are released - who knows? I agree with the A-B-B format, though.

I would be in.

a-b-b format?...im guessing that means that 24th picks first in the second and third rounds?
4/30/2010 6:37 PM
yep dh555 - it means you go 1-24, 24-1, 24-1, 1-24, 1-24, etc
4/30/2010 6:47 PM
gotcha.....yea given how dominant lebron, howard, durant and some others will be compared to the lower guys picked in round 1 im all for that format

i have no experience running a draft league but if no vets want to do it(im looking at you jakotay, ncih, or scud) ill give it a try....ill start a list to see how many people we can get before the release...we should have alot of time to get it filled

tarheel you in?

I don't get why people do this...can someone fill me in? Doesn't it totally damn the team with the first pick?
5/3/2010 10:20 AM
Depends completely on how top-heavy people believe the draft is. Depending on the draft pool, reasonable opinions can differ on whether picks 1 and 48 are more valuable together than picks 24 and 25. And anyway, what's the alternative? Without a serpentine order in a one-off draft, the last 19 or so owners have zero incentive to sign up.

I like the snake draft, but I take exception with the reverse snake, where instead of 1st overall selecting again at 48 and 49...they instead select again at 48 and 72....I like A-B-A-B, not A-B-B-A...I just don't get that format.

We all know that picks 24 + 25 rarely equal picks 1 + 48. While I applaud the effort to equalize things, I'd say this overdoes it a bit. I like doing the reverse starting in round 5 instead.

standard snake style works for me.
