We just finished our draft so Rookie League starts in 2 day.

Presently, I only have 3 players sitting in rookie league as many were promoted to LowA at season's start. Simmy says if I don't fill up roster, he will. I looked under tryout camp, but only pitchers listed. I only want to sign half my drafts and some will not go into rookie league.

I also don't want to pay all the rookie bonus demands. So, any suggestions on how to fill the rookie roster in two days before Simmy does. And am I missing something, is there a way to see position players in tryout camp?

Thx

There are no pos. players in tryout camp right now, just pitchers. I would recommend signing as many draft picks as you can, but you can also look in the IFA pool and MiLB free agent pool.

There are no position players in the tryout camp. I think your rookies are automatically assigned to the RL. The rookie league means nothing, just let those guys develop there. Your rookies cost 8k apiece, dont go spending more on guys that are FA's.

Also, I would put your top 3-5 picks of the draft in LoA.

The draft, international FAs, minor league FAs, tryout camp (Ps), the waiver wire and demoting your worst Low A players are they only ways you can fill out rookie league.

Many of your late round (20-25) draft picks will be asking for 10K-25K bonuses + 8K salary. That is cheaper than most other sources so I would sign those players for rookie league first.

I'm not sure I would *endorse* this option, but there is one - a cheap one - that no one has mentioned yet.

You say that the tryout camp pool has only pitchers. Says who? They're "pitchers" only because they are designated as such, not because they have any particular talent for it. You could sign them and simply change their positions so that they are treated as crappy hitters rather than crappy pitchers in rookie league.

Now, if you did that, you would avoid paying rookie bonus demands (which was a concern for you) and you would also take the decision out of Simmy's/Sparky's hands. You might also go winless in rookie league though, so check with your World and see how much blowback you would face if that happened.

zbrent: It might come to that.

It will be interesting to see what Simmy does.

I had many supplemental 1st rounders - all but 1 were P. Anyway, I have signed 12 picks, which is good but have less than 10k prospect money . Presently I only have 5 'position' players but 20 on the rookie roster.

I'm a little curious how Simmy will handle it as I can't come up with more position players unless I rob Low A, which just shifts the problem to them.

I did putr 5 draft picks in Low A, but demoted 6 backj to Rookie.

Oh well, as a friend of mine said before eloping for his wedding: "Oh well, we'll see?"

Be careful, Simmy will automatically shift budget from somewhere if it comes to that, so just be aware that you are taking that risk if you have fewer than the required players in rookie.

Just sign minor league FA's. I don't see why it's so complicated. You won't have to pay them bonus money and they are just going to be filler anyway so who cares. Unless of course winning rookie league matters to you, in which case sign all the major league FA's that are just looking for pro deals and put them in rookie league. Either way, you avoid the bonus and the guys will only get paid $8k each.

Thanks timf.

I tried that but couldn't find any position players there either. However, after reading your post I tried again and noticed the default went to 'season 11' - our next season. After changing to season 10, plenty of players appeared.

So yes, problem is easily solved after all.

Many worlds don't have many (or any) minor league position player FA's. Pretty much because people don't sign all their draft picks, promote players (even the crappy ones), etc.

Sign ALL your draft picks. Put most of them in RL.

Maybe in future seasons, but between IFAs and already signing 12 draft picks, I only had less than 10k, so I couldn't meet any more draft players signing bonus demands. Thus the need to find 8 position players who would sign with no bonus money.

This isn't really accurate. Few, if any, minor league FA are demanding rookie league contracts in any of my Worlds. Almost all cost more than $8k pro-rated. As for the Pro-rated ML guys, they each get the pro-rated portion of a ML contract. More than a rookie league one.

Then you've got a budgeting problem. You shouldn't be spending all your money when you KNOW you're going to need more.

Sign FA position players from the majors FA page where the asking price is "pro" - They will always sign a minor league deal prorated.

Yes, but it's the pro-rated portion of $327k. Which makes them expensive rookie leaguers.
