Recruiting question Topic

when recruiting a player, do you recruit more for the offense you run, defense you run or a combo of both. Football is easy. Players dont play both offense and defense. HD players have to manage both sides of the ball. How are most of you guys handling this situation?

Defensive skills matter a lot in M2M. Otherwise, it is offense that determines who to recruit. Athleticism and Speed are always high on the list then it varies according to the set.

thx weena. Any suggestions on what to recruit for when running the triangle?

Passing in the front court, and in general, as stated, that comes after cores and ath/spd. Bh is not that important in a triangle.

Not that this isn't core but in the triangle you'll want to keep the following on the floor as much as possible: two guys among the PG/SG/SF that are legit scoring threats and a big man that can pass.

The answer is 'Yes'. Obviously you need a minimum level of competency in your defense. YOu need a minimum level in your offense. Once you achieve that, however, you see successful teams built around many different strategies. Keep in mind that many of the ratings will have an effect on both: If you are a really good rebounding team, you will get many extra possessions to score in, possibly allot of easy baskets - helping your offensive production. If you have a high passing and BH, you won't turn the ball over as much, thus denying the other team fast breaks and easy baskets. . thus helping out your defense. So really, its not an either or proposition.

Honestly, I don't recruit any different depending on what offense I play, I look for the attributes that are important to me. There are some differences based on defense.

I have been having a hard time finding players with cores related to running the triangle and zone. It seems like I have to tip the scale towards one of the two when picking players. I noticed here in HD, even DIII players have off the chart cores in some areas that GD DIII players would never have. On that same note, they stink in other areas and I am having to pick my poison you might say.

Yes, especially at the lower levels, you really have to decide what's important for you. Again, I'll say that if it's a choice between a player that you think might be better for triangle and a guy who's just a better player, I would go with B every single time.

Yeah, my plan for when I had a triangle team was the Kobe/shaq lakers. Get 1 great big man who has LP, ATH, Passing, 1 rebounding PF that is not a great scorer, a Robert Horry type spot up 3 point shooting SF, a good scoring SG, and a PG that has good passing and BH, but not too much shooting ability.

I think there lie my problaem reinsal. I have been looking for players that excel in all areas and not isolate like you and jaggedendz mention. Those are some great tips!

if you are looking for zone you can easily skimp on DE for a couple players who might excel in offense instead and their mates will average them out...as long as everyone is fast and athletic...
