So what happens to HD when the Big 12... Topic

...dissolves?

Nothing?

After all, Notre Dame is still Big Ten, Marquette and DePaul are still Horizon, etc., so I wouldn't be surprised if we see no movement at all.

It may have to remain how it is currently. If some of the Big 12 end up leaving for the PAC 10 the Pac 10 could end up with 16 members which can't be replicated in HD without major changes in conference organization.

Texas will likely end up in the real life Big Ten. That will give the Big Ten 12 teams. It boggles my mind that regional conferences are practically a thing of the past. I doubt if HD will change unless they start over from scratch.

Texas isn't going to the Big Ten. http://www.omaha.com/article/20100606/BIGRED/306069874

Baylor has marshalled state and federal forces to force the Pac-10 to take them instead of Colorado. Pleez.....that's not a legislative issue!

They need to. They're going to be behind in the new landscape of College Football.

Shame.

Not the first time.
Gov Ann Richards is the reason BU is in the B12 right now.

I like what JoPa said. ND had their chance to join the Big 10 and blew them off...so they shouldn't get another shot.

Yep, Notre Dame is history. What their proud alums don't realize is that recruits only care about their lifetime...they don't know about Notre Dame's history. After 4 or 5 medicore seasons, the recruits consider you just like any other middling school.

An interesting scenario, though. If the Big 10 expands to 16 teams, the SEC will probably expand, too. Schools mentioned are Georgia Tech, Clemson, Florida State and Miami. The remaining ACC/Big East schools could then merge for self-preservation

I believe I read that the Pac-10 commissioner said that the expansion plans will be made public before the end of this year and the changes will be in effect for the 2012-13 season.

So even in the most apocalyptic scenario, the Big XII will chug along in its current format over the course of the next several WIS seasons.

Haha, gator must be a gator fan and full of himself and his conference. The whole reason this is coming about for expansion is:

1. Big Ten wanting 12 teams at least to split the football conference into east and west for a conference championship game, hence they need an extra team or more, at 11 teams right now.

2. Big East is such a powerful conference right now with 16 teams there is talk of when the Big Ten expands they may just raid the Pac-10 and Big East in order to get up to a 16 team league. Thus the big east after being raided would go back and get teams to fill back up to 16 teams.

After which conferences like the Pac 10, SEC, ACC, Big 12 would either have to expand or die as 2 super conference would have them going on the outs.
