recruiting against a sim Topic

recruiting aganst a sim,

i remember playing GD last year and it was relativley easy to shake off a sim, cuz they never really went over market value as recuiting. I found if you spent a lil over market value for a player or what you think u should, u could shake of the sim coach alot easier than a human coach..does that still hold true?

easier than recruiting against humans because they are predictable but some sims have decent prestige and you will have to spend the 3k+in d3 if it is their primary recruit to shake them if they are higher prestige than yourself.

there are usually much better players than the ones the sim latches onto. i would rather pull another player down than spend that much on a sim recruit

A few things to know about recruiting against a sim:

1. Sims can recruit everyone as if they were 250 miles away - they don't have a distance penalty. Therefore, it's generally a bad idea to compete with sims for guys far away from you.

2. Sims recruit for 2 less spots than they have openings, and use the extra money on their top targets. So if the sim has 3 spots in D3, they will put almost all of their $9,000 into one guy. If they have four spots, they will put about $5-6K into two guys, etc.

3. Sims have top targets and backups. If you are after their top target, you'll need to spend a lot. If you are after one of their backups (especially one they start recruiting after signings start), you can get them really cheap.

4. Once you take the lead on a sim recruit, you will win. The sim doesn't spend any additional money.

I'm not sure #2 is true anymore. Last recruiting period in Iba cpu teams were bringing in all available open scholarships.

That must have been a glitch then. SIMs also recruit for 2 less and then pull walkons to finish out their roster depending on how many players they signed.

Not true anymore, westcoast. That one changed something like a month ago - they recruit for 2 less, but they leave some cash for after the signing period.

a month ago? Its been like that for months, perhaps a year.

I believe that change was the same release as "potential," 1.5 years ago.

They still spend most of their cash on two less than they have openings though. The change was they try to pick up some additional guys late- but they spend very little on them - probably just over the minimum.

Even so, those players are STILL probably better than putrid walkons.

I'm going against a SIM AI for a player. He's been considering both of us since the second cycle. He has not signed with either one in the first signing session.

He is the only recruit the SIM AI is after.  Have I made a mistake competing with the SIM AI for his only recruit?? I know I've already spent too much money....don't want to waste anymore if I'm destined to lose.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

What does the last scholarship email you received say?  What does the FSS word on the street say?
(Normally I would not advise you to post these publicly but since you are up against a SIM it shouldn't be an issue.)

They spend extremely little on them, last recruiting season in Naismith I went after a recruit considering a C prestige DI school after signings and i was able to pull him down and sign him w/ 10 scouting trips, 4 CVs, and 10 mins.

Can an upper level D2 school steal from a low level D1 sim?

I thought knocking off a SIM in HD was going to be easy like it is in GD ... it was a bit trickier than I thought.

In Div-III, I wanted a very close to me recruit (10 miles away).  The SIM team and I had the same prestige.  The recruit was a JR transfer.  I had to spend $4,249 and offer a FR Start and 20 minutes playing time.

The other team started out with the player considering them, and he was still considering them at the end when he finally signed with me.

If I would have known it takes more than the normal allotted amount to knock of most SIMs, even early, I would have likely looked elsewhere

Pretty much my situation also. The SIM AI had C- prestige and I have C+. The player did consider the SIM AI team first (first cycle), but I was considered in the next cycle. My player finally signed with me today......but not until I had invested about the same as hughesjr above. My player was just 20 miles away...or it would have been uglier. Knowing what I know now, I would have not gone after him.
