I would like the ability to be able to edit the ratings of players in my world to values more appealing to me.  I think that this would enhance the strategy of the game.

For instance, if I have a weak hitting shortstop, it would be great to be able to edit his hitting ratings so that he becomes a Albert Pujols type hitter with an Ozzie Smith type glove that I can move up to the three hole in my lineup and anchor my infield.

This could also be used to make up for deficiencies in my pitching staff.  If I have a starter with splits in the high 50's backed up with a set of medioce pitches, I could "enhance" him such that both his splits and his pitches would be in the 90's across the board.

I see this being particularly useful in mid-season.  Let's say my #1 starter goes down with a season-ending injury.  With a player editor, I could override his injury and get him out there for his next start.  Or, as an alternative, I could just sign a guy out of Tryout Camp, edit his ratings to be the same as my now-injured pitcher, and insert him into the other guys spot in the rotation.

This could also be used to edit the ratings of players on other teams.  Let's say I'm playing a critical game late in the season against a team that I'm competing against for a playoff spot.  I should be able to edit the other team's starting pitcher to knock him down a couple dozen rating points across the board.  Again, this would all be done under the premise of strategy, and as a fun enhancement that is currently missing from the game.

I think that this suggestion would directly address and eliminate some other suggestions that come up in the forums from time to time, such as the need for better DITR's, or there are not enough home runs, or there are too many errors, etc.

That's all for now.  I'm currently working on the specs for my next suggestion, which will be a boxscore editor that will strategically allow me to change the results of certain plays during game as well as the final score.

Will this be a piggyback upgrade with being able to determine if your departing FA should be Type A, Type B or no compensation?

No.  This is a serious suggestion.  Not something pointless and frivolous like that.

One other thing: the player editor should also allow me to change the skin tone of my players to something more asthetically and visually appealing to me.  Too many of those different colored fellows showing up in my worlds.

I like this suggestion. You could pull all your funding from everything but player payroll, since you can strategically improve whatever players you can get, and pour all your money into payroll to keep other teams from signing quality players. Then you could just stash anyone with options in the minors. Strategy!

I'm struggling to think of a downside to this.

Is this proposal for everyone or, at some point, will you say "I'm not proposing everybody has this ability to decide if they should be able to edit their players or not"?

This is not just for my benefit.  That would be self-serving.  This would be for everybody.

I'm anxiously awaiting patrick's response.

The forums are full of haters, tec.

I think people are failing to see that tec is proposing change for a specific current imbalance that could be easily be made more in balance.

It would also add more strategy and fun into the game as well.  And isn't that what it's all supposed to be about?
10/1/2010 2:55 PM
No.

While not fully a DUMB IDEA, I think the better option would be the improvement to the draft formula so you can better weed out those players up front if you don't like 'em.

I see a danger of extreme park settings seeing an advantage if this was implemented.

I'm all for it!

But perhaps make it more like old school Baseball Stars, where you get money from winning games to power up your players.
