1-10 how important is defense in Colorado? Topic

I started a team in Colorado and I am thinking of a few strategies:

     1. A high defensive team with average hitting

     2. A high hitting team with average defense

Get the best players you can, and make sure you have better than average pitching capable of throwin a LOT of innings.

Based on what I have seen cbriese do in offensive ballparks, high range guys at every position with average bats should do the trick.

I suck at Coors, I currently have a team there and am at a loss. Every pitcher I have used sucked. You basically need very good pitchers that can throw a ton of innings like iain said. If only it were easy to obtain very good pitchers. RP's are a crap shoot. I have had some stud RP's have a great year, to a horrific year, to an average one....its a toss up.

I am sure at some point I will figure it out, but I am used to pitchers parks and am still trying to adjust to the backwards nature of Coors.

I basically have been drafting stud hitters in hopes to out slug everyone.

I do have a very good defense, and it doesnt seem to matter.

The problem with average bats is when you travel to other ballparks. Yeah you will do well at home, but on the road you will get killed....

crabman, I assume you're talking about Major Leagues.

One thing I'd take a second look at there is your opinion of your defense. It certainly isn't bad, and it may even be a touch above average, but I wouldn't consider it "very good" - especially if you weigh it against the type of defense that cbriese usually puts together.

He is one of the few owners who values D even more than I do, and some of his teams are clearly a notch above mine defensively, and mine (in Major Leagues) is clearly a notch above yours.

If I was to play in an extreme park like Coors, I might go that extra mile with respect to D, based simply on the logic that great defense effectively "steals" hits from the opposition, and in Coors there are a ton more potential hits to be stolen.

You would think so...  but he has his last 20 or so seasons (I can't remember exactly when he switched over to this strategy) that say otherwise.

Oh, and if 1 is worthless and 10 is vital, I'll go 9+.

But, keep in mind, I probably would also rank D as at least a 7 in a neutral park, so I over-value D compared to most owners.

Too bad cbriese's strategy is mediocre in the postseason.

I haven't heard anyone talk about getting groundball pitchers.

Well, I do have the 2nd fewest errors in the league with having above league average + plays. My only drawback defensively is my 1b, which is only playing there to give me some offense, but he is why I have so many negative plays.

So yeah, maybe very good is a stretch this season, but its still solid. Maybe I will give it a try to put out a top notch defense, but my fear is I will sacrifice on offense...

My other problem is finding very good pitchers...

I would think that defense is important in any park.  As is pitching.  And hitting.

The park only affects how effective the pitching and hitting is.  Settling for "average" in any category is going to bite you in the end.
