I was tempted to steal a 1yr d3 recruit... Topic

with my gtown team but i decided against it. (its a sr transfer who is considering a d3 school.) would have allowed me to carry over about 2-2.5k, but i dont want to be that much of a d*ck.

what would you guys do?

I don't have a DI team but I would pass. I never recruit a lower division.  Couldn't you find a cheap 1 year tranfer? I've done that at DII before when I didn't want to take a walkon but the better recruits were already signed

I thought the AD would stop you from signing a guy that low.
12/16/2010 11:28 AM
I bet your AD would tell you that you cant

well the only d2 projected 1yr transfers are:

-a guy that quit my team last season
-2080 miles away already considering two d2 teams

(no projected d1 transfers)

when do you find out if ineligibles go juco exactly?
12/16/2010 11:33 AM
I would do it.  If ti keeps you carryonver or balances classes I would and some d3 guys are as good as low level d1 players.  D1 is all f'd up

I don't understand why anyone thinks it's "dickish" to recruit a guy at a lower division. If that D3 coach could have pulled down one of your recruits he would have done it without giving it a second thought. Why shouldn't you be allowed to recruit from a lower division if you feel it helps your team?

D2 ineligibles don't go JUCO until after recruiting is done. If you were unlucky enough to sign one, you take a walkon in his place but don't lose the recruiting money for next season

You can't sign a D3 recruit at a D1 school.  The AD/system won't allow it.  I've tried.

does carry over get reduced to 25% like GD?

you think it is reasonable for a high end d1 school to take players off of d3 schools? its one thing when you are talking about like high end of one division and low end of the next one up. but a great d1 school vs a d3 school, how does that make any sense at all?

some people think it is dickish to recruit down a division because the higher division school has huge advantages over the lower division school, and also has access to a vastly better pool of recruits. so the lower school gets royally screwed, which is fine, but the higher division school basically never benefits significantly. so the net result over both teams is always bad. where as in normal battles, somebody gets something worth a lot, so the net result is often good or decent. other people see no problem with it. but the people who do it usually are extremely unsuccessful so personally i just don't see the point.

it would have only given me an extra 2k next season, which in d1 might be 2% of my budget. meanwhile the player would have probably benefitted the lower teams a lot, especially if i went over the player being battled over.

at the very least, i get karma points for holding off.
