I've read a number of threads regarding redshirting upper classmen and most of my questions have been answered, all but one.

Assuming I have a SR player who has maxed out but I would like to sit them for a year so the rest of the team develops around him and the team as a whole is stronger a season later.

If I put the redshirt on him and his WE drops to a 1 but I still leave it one. What are the chances that he transfers or quits the team? Is there any chance? Has anyone tried this before.

Any input or speculation would be appreciated.

0%. His WE will stay at 1 as you mention, and he will lose some stats due to rollover, although he probably won't during the season. I am not 100% certain any of that is true.

There is a minimal chance that he will leave, but probably worth the risk if you think it will make you a title contender.

Never done this, don't know anybody that has but I'm sure it's had to be done. But as was said if you don't think your team is going to be too good this season but next season with him they could be really good then I'd go for it and take the risk. Worst case is you lose a few more games than you would have and he still leaves or you lose the same games he comes back and you get a really strong team.

Thanks for the responses. I think that him Redshirting next season won't negatively affect the team too much as I have pretty good depth. And having him return the season after I see my team being a contender. We will see how it goes I guess.

Just redshirted the SR before recruiting begins. His WE dropped to 1 as I expected it to. Is it worth it to keep taking off and reapplying to see if there is a chance he takes it. Or just leave it on?

I bet that he wont accept even if you flip back and forth - I'd tend toward leaving it on and hope that he doesnt transfer

That's what I am thinking. Also, after his RS season will his WE jump back up? Or stay at 1?

it will stay at 1, but if he is maxxed already it shouldn't affect him much...

The senior has indeed come back for 1 more year. This means my team has returned all 12 players for 2 straight years. Should be a solid squad this season.
