Since you guys might not notice a new Dev Blog post, I'll post here too:

One idea I'd like to throw out for feedback.  I'm thinking of adding a function for a coach to set a custom formula for calculating overall rating.  This could potentially be set by position.  So basically you'd put a weight on each rating and then the formula would calculate an overall rating from 0 to 100.  If you generally run a fast break or press, you might value stamina more than another coach.  If you're more defensive minded you might put more weight on Defense and Athleticism.

Then, anywhere you view a player's ratings (profile, recruiting search, etc.), the overall rating you see would be based on your custom formula.  This could make player evaluation much easier and more straightforward.

Thoughts?

I would love it- I currently have an excel spreadsheet doing the same thing.  Please ensure if you do this (and I'm not sure if it's possible) this includes Work Ethic, IQ and free throw shooting.  The IQs may not be possible though.

That would be great.  Like asher, I have an excel spreadsheet that does exactly that.  I would also like it to include WE and FT shooting %.  In a perfect world it would include IQ as well, but since those aren't currently made available without calling a recuits coach or an AC eval I guess that couldn't be included, unless of course you decide to make recruit's IQs be known for free.

WE and FT could definitely be included, IQs probably not.

Im just wondering why Jconte in Gridiron Dynasty cant throw out great ideas in the forums like you do seble, instead of releasing crap for us to beta test for him?  Great idea though..Im all for it

I like the idea as long as  the regular ratings remain visible too as either concurrently viewable or as a clickable option.

One note of hesistation:  I don't have a spreadsheet as others do (I do a similar analysis with the eyeball test), but it seems complicated to make a one-size fits all formula without a bunch of if/then statements.  For instance, while I might value stamina and speed more in a FB offense, a player with 100/100 in those categories would be completely ignored by me if he had a 1 rating in Ath or WE.  A weighted total rating, however, may have him rated very high because of the 100/100 ratings.

This would only affect the Overall Rating.  The individual ratings would still be visible the same way they are today.  It's not necessarily meant to be the only thing you need to evaluate a player, just to be much more useful than the current Overall Rating, which is simply the total of the individual ratings.  A thorough coach would still look over all the individual ratings as well.

Sweet.  Thumbs up!

should work well

should be able to be visible on the "ratings" tab when you do recruit search-- an extra cat after overall that says "custom" or something, then instead of filtering by 40+ speed 40+ athletcism, you could just sort descending by your custom # and get the best guards or whatever.

What would I do with all that extra space on my laptop that is now taken up with Excel Spreadsheets for each of my teams?

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
Should be able to change these by position, yes?
