Game Planning... ugh Topic

I'm still trying to figure out game planning and its really a PIA.

I was heavily favored and lost by 4.  Was this an off game?

I'm kinda overwhelmed. maybe if I can figure out Defensive game planning first and the move on to offensive later.

I try and look at the leading scorers for the other team as well as their shooting % too.  Then I select to DOUBLE TEAM IF LEADING SCORER for one or two of the top  scorers if either one has a decenet shot %.  I also usually play a +1 or +2 defense unless there are 2 good inside scorers.

you lost that game because you played a + defense against a team that doesn't shoot 3's and played into their strength of scoring inside

May I ask how to determine they are an inside team? The top 2 scorers are guards.

You can look at how many shots they are taking from the perimeter, their per ratings, lp ratings, etc.  They shoot 23% from downtown and only 25% of their shots are from beyond the arc.  They don't have anyone above 35 per.  That's simply not a team you should be worried about shooting from the perimeter.

Double teaming two different players can be a liability in certain situations. If a player being double teamed has a good PS and BH ratings then there will be several opportunities for the ball to be dished to other players for open shots, which could leave the other scorer(s) with more chances at high-percentage shots. Just something that I would take into consideration.

I'd say I double a guy approximately 0.7-0.8 games per season.

are we talking full time double team or "only if leading scorer?"

I'd cut waaay down on double teaming.  It is rare that it is a good idea.  Learn how to play without using it - until you meet a team that has waaay disproportionate distribution or until you are outmanned and need to roll the dice with a wacky tactic

So what's left for Defensive gam planning? Just if you go + or - on d?

+/- is huge, but you run man, so defensive matchups are a big deal.  I rarely DT, but it can be effective ifused properly.  Frankly, the most important thing, like real life, is having smarter, better players than the other team.  Gameplanning is incredibly imporant, but it's tough to overcome large talent discrepancies one way or the other.

Can someone exlplain what happened last night? I thought I had good defense set up on Goodman.

Hope just straight up killed you in Points Off Turnovers.  I think you had the right idea defensively BUT, as any coach here will tell you, you can do all the right things and still lose.

Can I ask how you can see what D i set up (or if I double teamed or not)?

I just see the box sscore

This post has a rating of , which is below the default threshold.
Brad-not sure if you got my email, but I think your issues were more with your offensive game plan than your defensive one
