I'm not sure what this suggests. I mean, given that it's a suggestion forum and all.

I infer that Arlen is suggesting that the ratio of domestic to international players in HBD mirror the corresponding ratio in MLB.

I also infer that he doesn't know (but perhaps suspects) that the ratio is wrong right now, and that he doesn't actually want to look into the issue himself.

I infer that he had some free time on his hands so he chose to spend it making non-committal posts about irrelevant issues if they are indeed issues.

Other than being overly politically correct, why would that matter?  If your going to worry about percentages based on ethnic diversity in todays baseball, how about fixing the random name generator so that we quit getting things like Ramon Takagawa?  Maybe that could be fixed first? Its just databases being unique to a region.

There are better things WiS could be working on than making sure we've got the percentages correct.  Also just so you know the current major league breakdown is as follows: 60% White, 29% Hispanic, 8% Black, 3% Asian (stats quoted from www.chineseorjapanese.com/racial-breakdown-us-sports/)  This was done in 2009 so it is likely to be correct within a point or two either way for 2011.

Does national origin even matter?  Can't we all just get along?

Come on people now. Smile on your brother. Everybody get together, try to love one another right now.

I would imagine the people who worry about this in a game have pictures of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh taped to their dart boards. :)

Personally I don't give a hoot.  I would like to see sleepers found in late rounds of the draft, or maybe a diamond in the rough who is acutally a diamond, most of my are cubic zerconia in the rough.

Really, the ONLY way in which this matters (other than as a cosmetic piece of fluff on the player's card, which seems to be Arlen's interest) is in the fact that domestic players come into the game via a closed market (the draft) while internationals come into the game via an open market (IFA).

True.  I'm interested in seeing any further news, if anyone has links, on the proposed international draft that MLB keeps talking about.  I don't think it would be good for HBD, necesarily, but in real life, to many unsavory characters are getting wealthy on the dreams of young kids who might never go beyond Low A.  I've read a lot of the reports on what is going on down in central and south america and its sad.

It's nice for analysis to resemble the truth.  This is a simulation, so it should simulate.
