NCIH $52 MIllion Draft: Pre-Mid Season Thoughts. Topic

1) jayharvill - Wilt Chamberlain Traded to vancem.

vancem – Traded all of his picks for Wilt. Is this guy just a smart A$$ that gets lucky once in a while or does he know what he’s doing? Nobody’s ever won the title with Wilt in this league in at least 2 ½ to 3 years. IMO this dude's just a flash in the pan. Round 2 Paul Pierce: Has one great season with 54% 2pt shooting and 55 EFG%. A legit # scoring option in this league. Round 3 Robert Parish: Great offensive efficiency along with good rebounding numbers. A nice fit next to Wilt. Low negative number too. Round 4 Terry Porter: Pretty shocked that he went in the bottom of round 4. Seems like an awesome fit next to Pierce. 60 defense isn't that bad. Round 5 Mike Miller: 3 or 4 nice seasons to use. Another outside threat to keep owners from going -1 of -2 defense. But Miller's new defensive rating is horrible. I pretty much like this team so far but am looking for some key back ups. Round 6 Antonio McDyess and Ty Lawson: McDyess has 86 D and very good rebounding at SF for 30 MPG. Lawson is the perfect back up to Porter. Lawson is an excellent 2 point shooter and hits 40% from 3.

I'll give myself and A but not n A +. Drexler may have been a better choice  than Pierce. Mde the McDyess pick kind of quickly.

2) sappy - Michael Jordan

Only Lebron should have been considered here besides Jordan. Okay sappy this isn't your fiirst dance with Jordan at the NCIH 52$ Million party. For the love of you know who BUILD US A WINNER PLEASE! Round 2 Elgin Baylor:  This is the worst pick in the graft so far. All of Jordan's goodness offensively is voided by Elgin's badness. No amount of offensive rebounding will help. Round 3 Buck Williams:  A nice pick but didn't you take Jordan and and Buck last time with little success?  I don't see any fixes in rd 5 or rd 6 to make this a 40 to 45 win team. :((   Round 4 Joel Pryzbilla: You had to have size and you got it!  liked the pick but hes only goofd for 24 MPG. Round 5 Jose Calderon: I understand this pick but I was really hoping that you were going to go malone style crazy and take another big here like Dalembert or Dampier. Then shift over Jordan tp PG and Elgin to SG and let the fun begin! You can get a decent SF in round 6. But Calderon is a great fit for a traditional line up. Its going to be really difficult getting a decent big in round 6 where you are picking. Round 6: NO Call / NO Show NO / Site Mail. The team needs a bach up PG and a lot mor minutes at C to complete things.

Elgin Baylor in this league in round 2 deserves a D or a D-.

3) sixernuggets - Moses Malone

Very nice. LeBron should have been looked at hard here at 3.Moses is easy to build around and can play over 41MPG. RD 2 Wes Unseld: Nice help for Moses inside plus he gets assists. Nice combo inside. RD 3 Glen Rice: I really dislike this pick simply because much better options were out there. Rice is a little bit weak for this league. A lack of perimeter defense and assists will hamper the teams potential unless it gets corrected ASAP! RD 4 Norm Vanlier: Not a bad player but noty a great pick. Terry Porter was available and so was another one of the most underrated SGs who also plays awesome defensive with very low negative numbers. Round 5 Shane Battier: Better SFs available = a bad pick here. Battier is a very bad rebounder for an SF in this league. Rice is also a liability on the boards. I have a feeling that this group cannot contend or make the playoffs. Round 6 Alex English and Jon Barry: English is a poor rebounder at SF to be a back up. Barry is a good back up here. He shoots extremely well in his best season but are there 25 backup minutes are guard available? I like one of his last seasons where he is good for 15mpg. Round 6 helped but not a huge difference maker for the team.

Not enough help for Moses on the boards. No dominant guards at this level. How about a C.

4) ncih - LeBron James

LeBron is a no brainer at 4. If LeBron isn't you starting PG though than WTH are you thinking? Round 2 Dirk Nowitzi: A great pick to help LeBron in scoring. Very low negative numbers. More than one great season to choose from. Round 3 Scottie Pippen:  Looks like a steal to me at SG nest to LeBron. I don't see a better backcourt this season. Great rebounding guards! The 3 point shooting percentage isn't killer but just the first three picks will kill many teams. Round 4 Bill Laimbeer: Better rebounding than I thought CREB is right at 36%. Just enough inside scoring to take the pressure off of LeBron. Round 5 Calvin Natt: One of my favorite all time players and a sleeper at SF in this league. I like this team a lot. Round 6 Damon Jones and Kurt Thomas: If Jones plays more than the 16 MPG season than I don't really like this pick. But the starting guards are so strong already that using Jones best season might not hurt that much. The team needed a few more high percentage 3s and they got them. Kurt Thomas adds rebounding and doesn't hurt the team. Looking forward to see how well this team does.

A nice team but you can't get an A here with Laimbeer as your main big man so an A -.

5) mikee1 - Charles Barkley

At # 5 I like Rodman a whole lot better. Seems to be easy to build around. With one great season at 99% SF he is SIM Force. The defense is about average for this level. Mikee will know what to do with him. Round 2 Gerald Wallace: A bit high for Wallace to go but he's a SG on this team and he will do a lot of damage and rebound the heck out of the ball defensively. Round 3 Mel Daniels: Kind of a steal. He minds me of  poor man's Moses. Low negative number and you gotta love the CREB% at over 42. Defensive rating above 60 isn't too shabby right now. Round 4 Troy Murphy:  A former stud that fell in the draft due to poor defense. Still a monster defensive rebounder and a great player to go with Wallace and Barkley. Round 5 Kevin Johnson: A steal for sure. Other players left that shoot the 3s better but he makes a lot of FTAs and gets tons of assists. Nice 2pt FG% of over 52%. This team is sneaky good. However, the inside defense is a bit weak and more threes will be needed to contend. Round 6 Greg Oden and Brendan Haywood: Some rebounding was added. Neither player help the team a lot. Better players were missed.

Good balance and great picks of underated players. Round 6 was bad so an A-.

6) 98average - Dwight Howard

Hard to argue taking a big like Howard except that he isn’t Rodman. I’m very interested to see if this team is any different than the last one that 98 built with Howard last season. Isn’t one of the definitions of insanity, “ Doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.” Round 2 Shawn Kemp: Adds a lot of inside scoring but was it needed? Also adds a lot of fouls and turnovers. Taken a round of or 2 too high IMO. Round 3: Mookie Blaylock: Nice PG for this team. Round 4 Bill Bridges: IMO a low 5th round pick at the best. Low FG% and doesn't shoot threes. How many rebound does a team need? Round 5 Tim Hardaway: His best position is the same as Mookie's Better shooting guards were available.  I don't get this team. I can't see a contender with this unit. Round 6 Nazr Mohammad and Reggie Evans: Low usage bigs were needed and thats what these guys are.

Not in love with the guard combo. Kemp taken too early. A solid B for 98.

7) scudmissle - Dennis Rodman

Rodman seems like a steal at #7. His defense didn’t take a big hit with the readjustments. Giving scud this gift is a big mistake. Too easy to create a winner around Rodman. RD 2 Gary Payton: Another steal for the crafty vet oh sorry I meant to say HOFer. Inside scoring is needed badly at this point. This team could be very scary depending on who drops in round 3. You better go big in RD 3 and grab and decent big that can score as they seem to be evaporating. Round 3 Bob McAdoo: Very nice inside offense and defensive rebounder for a 3rd round pick. You need some high usage when you have Rodman and especially when he's going to be you SF. Round 4 Spencer Haywood: A curious pick. He may work well with this unit. His usage and relatively poor field goal shooting always hurts him and his team in this league. But low negative numbers and whenever he shoots around 55% from the field the teams gonna win most of those games. Round 5 Joe Dumars: A tremendous pick for this team. A great fit with Payton. Just enough usage and 40% shooting on 3s. Low turnovers. This team looks to me like a strong contender. Most of the time I don't like Rodman at the SF position unless the 2 bigs are very strong mid range offensive players and at least one of them can make a few 3s. Round 6 Yao Ming and Micheal Williams: Yao is a nice fit but a little bit of a low rebounder. Williams ia good all around back up and plays good defense. I don't like the plan to play Haywood at SF.

If Haywood is used at 10 Million than a B+ to an A-. Haywood at SF= a B.

8) banditone - Chris Paul

I love this pick. I took criticism for taking Paul over Kidd last season but the results speak for themselves. Low TOs, solid EFG%, great assists and 2 really good seasons to choose from. RD 2 Kevin Durant: A great player but how well will his high usage work with Paul's? Inside offense is needed and if the rebounding issue isn't addressed quickly thus team will struggle. Round 3 Nate Thurmond: Adds a lot of positives; rebounding inside D and low negative numbers. His poor shooting won't be so noticable with Paul and Durant taking most of the shots. I like him on this team. Round 4 Fat Lever: Most of the time he's a no brainer at the bottom of the 4th round. What I don't really like here is that he will push Durant to the SF position. Lever adds lots of boards and assists. A low turnover guy. An interesting unit. Round 5 Roy Tarpley:  Well his best season in my book is good for 7.2 minutes a game LOL! He adds another sub 50% FG shooter to the mix  which for this team is bad. Tarpley also fouls a lot. But his rebounding is a plus.  I kind like this team in a strange way.  But whenever Paul or Durant have those 7 for 19 shooting nights this team will suffer. Round 6 Rick Barry and Chris Anderson: Barry has a nice 17 MPG season where he is a scoring demon so that wil help off of the bench. Anderson helps with excellent defense and good but not great rebounding.

Too many low EFG% players to contend so a B it is.

9) malone9975 - Kevin Love

I told myself to be nice and to not be a horses A$$ for the sake being a horse’s A$$ ever again so . . . I’ll do my best. That being said I really don’t like this pick. Artis Gilmore was available and if you were going to go big he should have been the pick. Don’t like Love’s fairly low EFG% for the amount of shots he takes. 30 Defensive rating is not good for player that you look to be building around. All that being said in just over 2600 minutes he took 499 FTAs and made 85%. Awesome rebounding numbers. Very low TOs and Fouls. RD 2 Steve Nash: Another pick that defies logic. Really you took Nash when Payton was still on the board WTH? This is a great $42 Million to $45 Million team. Nash's high TOs and lack of FTAs don't add to Love's good qualities. Believe me the lack of defense will not be made up for by drafting a 7 foot plus African or Sub-Saharan big man in round 5 or 6 LOL!  How much better would Gilmore and Payton have  been together than this combo ? ? ? Round 3 Tom Boerwinkle: I like the pick over all but why not take Swen Nater instead? I guess 62 defense is over 3 X better than 20 defense. Great rebounding and even more assists. Round 4 Horace Grant: A fabulous pick!!! Grant is the perfect SF for this team. Love the rebounding, defense, medium/low usage and offensive positioning. One of the best if not the best 4th round pick for what the team needed. Round 5: Chris Mullin: I don't like this pick since a much better defender at SG was available. Mullins low usage season is nice but this team needed a perimeter defender. one of Mullin's expensive seasons + Nash = tons of turnovers and bad defense in the back court. I see a potential 2nd round playoff exit. Round 6 Dale Davis and Alvin Robertson: Both players are good fits. Davis adds good rebounding, low usage, and low negative numbers. I really like one of Robetson's seasons with Milwaukie where he has excellent rebounding stats. Can't tell if this unit will end up being a nasty good casserole, or a slightly under cooked watery pot pie.

My gut tells me that this is a B-. Too much weak defense at key postions in this league.

10) tricky24 - Shaquille O'Neal

Taking Shaq over Kareem is sickening. You’re going to need to give Shaq a lot of help on the boards. Seeing Shaq miss tons of free throws while the team is losing 2 and 3 point ball games will keep you from ever using him again. I picked Shaq way too high myself in this league and kicked myself for it. RD 2 Kobe Bryant: I like the pick for the most part. Inside and outside scoring is awesome. Defensive rebounding is needed in a big way. Round 3 Donyell Marshall: I love this pick. Great rebounding, 3 point shooting and just the right amount of usage. Round 4 Harry Gallatin: Excellent rebounding and very poor FG%. I don't love the pick and don't really hate it that much. But for lower minutes per game their may have better fits such as Eric Dampier. Round 5 Mark Jackson: I really like this pick. In his best season he will really help this team. This team will win a lot of games but I don't know if they will be a top 5 or 6 unit. I have a feeling the the round 6 picks will really make or break this team. Round 6 Stephen Jackson and Kevin Willis: Jackson adds points but with high usage and fairly low EFG%. Willis was a 6th round super pick and his usage won't be as bad with Kobe and Shaq taking most of the shots. However, if Willis was in the plans than why not pick him in round 4 over Gallatin? There's only about 22 MPG as a back up to Shaq and Willis. That leaves a lot of unused minutes for Gallatin who is only 90% effective an SF in his best rebounding season. This is still a good team but I don't think that the some of the parts is greater than the individual players. Kind of a crazy mix.

With Gallatin on board and no place to use him effectively after Willis was taken = a C + at best.

11) katernberg - Kareem Abdul –Jabbar

I liked the pick but Kareem needs help on the boards. Some good seasons to work with though.  RD 2 Carlos Boozer: With Jerry Lucas gone who else was left that could rebound and score like Boozer? Strongest inside game so far, or maybe second to my own. Who are the guards going to be to get teams to stop playing -2 defense on these guys? Round 3 Deron Williams: Great pick in the 3rd round. I like the pick even more when one of my favorites of all time . . . Round 4 Brent Barry: is added to the mix. Awesome offensive balance outside and inside. Excellent shooting at all of the spots so far.Round 5 AC Green: A fantastic low usage, very good rebounding and high FG% SF for this team. Got to find a strong back up fr Boozer in round 6. I see a top 5 team developing here. Round 6 Marcin Gortat and Nate McMillan: Gortat is a great find in the 6th round for this team. In his best tseason he has good rebounding excellent shooting and very low neative numbers at 20 MPG. A perfect fit behind Kareem and especially Boozer. Nate McMillian adds assists, defense and rebounding all of the things that Barry and Williams (except for assists) are weak at. This team was well thought out with a plan in mind. I love this unit. Unfortumately for the rest of us there are plenty of 3 point gunners left undrafted to back up Green.

Great picks. Great balance and great planning receives an A to an A+.

12) jakotay - Jason Kidd

One great low usage season to work with. Easy to build around Kidd. Round 2 Jerry Lucas: Nice 2nd round snag. In this league can be your # 1 rebounder but is at best your number 3 scorer. In Kidd's best season he is pretty much a number 4 scorer. This team needs points in RD 3 and RD 4 big time. Boozer may have been a better pick here. Round 3 Vince Carter: A very nice pick especially if you use a low usage version of Kidd. But, I still really dislike the pick because Clyde Drexler was available and he brings a lot more to the table rebounding and assist wide. Drexler also has a higher FG%. Round 4 Grant Hill: a super steal in round 4. If this guys ever gets out of round 2 again I'll be shocked! It' too bad that Vince's high usage will take away from Hill. Two offensive super stars with around 50 EFG% each normally don't win the title in this league. Round 5 David Lee: I liked the pick. But the inside usage isn't quite enough. The team's going to need a 6th round surprise to be a top 10 team IMO.Round 6 LaSalle Thompson and Sam Cassell: Thompson provides excellent rebounding, good scoring and good defense for a pick this late. He fouls a bit much. Cassell adds points and assists. A good rebounder for a PG. I would have liked to have seen an undrafted low usage high rebounding SG / SF with high EFG% taken here to back up Carter and Hill instead of taking Cassell. But he minutes might not have worked.

Maybe I'm vinsane but taking Vince Carter over Drexler along with not having a really great inside scorer equates to a B possibly up to a B+.

13) 98average2 - Artis Gilmore

Nice pick but you took Artis last time and what were the results . . .? Well nobody remembers but the team didn’t win the title. Curious to see if you will go away from your bent toward going with as extreme as possible EFG% at very position as is what it looks like what happened last season. Artis should have gone higher IMO. Lets face it 98 in fact does know WTH he is doing. Round 2 Elton Brand: Seems a bit too high for Elton to go here. Very strong inside game so far. When will be take the guards and who will they be . . . intriguing. Round 3 Willis Reed: a real sleeper pick for this team. I loved it! Very solid mid range scoring, very good rebounding. One of his best seasons with 90 defense to boot. Round 4 Baron Davis: His high usage and poor EFG% takes away form all of the other players offensive mojo. The pick make me sad ;((  With Penny Hardaway, Terry Porter, and Fat Lever all available WTH were you thinking 98? Round 5 Darrell Armstrong: I don't like this pick at all. The team is desperate for 3 point shooting. Would have even liked Armstrong in round 4 over Davis and a 3 point shooter in round 5. Playoffs are very questionable at this point.  Round 6 Danny Fortson and Charlie Ward: If you are looking for back ups with awesome numbers for 10 MPG each these picks can't be beat. Get a 3 point shooter to back up Brand, which won't be difficult, and the roster is complete.

I sort of liked this group until the Baron Davis pick. Willis Reed to go with Atrtis was one of the best moves of the draft. Okay a B+.

14) captainzen Magic Johnson.

A great PG with some great seasons. One of the three best PGs available if you want great rebounding at that position. Round 2 Bill Walton: One of my favorites. In RL this would have been so fun to watch Big Red and Magic playing together. Walton's best season is only 28 MPG so another solid big is a must. More inside scoring is still needed along with some low turnover role players. Round 3 Wesley Person: Taking Person ahead of Drexler, Redd, Penny, and yes even Moncrief is simply a crime against humanity! Person is a nice low 5th or 6th round pick. His usage is too low for this team at this pick. Walton and Magic need a 22 to 25 usage guy to provide scoring and FTAs. Round 4 Danny Granger: Things are going form Bad to Worse sadly enough. Granger is a terrible rebounder at SF. Walton needed serious help on the boards and didn't get it. Round 5 Red Robbins: The good---he can rebound very well and is good good for 39 to 40 MPG. The bad--he's not a big scorer and his FG% of 48% is a bit low for this league. Rds 3 and 4 have ruined a promising start. Round 6 Amare Stoudamire and Brian Taylor: Nice offensive help for Walton inside but not much help on the boards in Amare. I would have loved to have seen 1 of of 2 undrafted big men go here though instead of Amare. Too late to take either of them now because they both have way over $4 Million in salary. Brian Taylor is a nice fit. The 8081 low usage season for Taylor is my favorite and at about 28 MPG will add assists and solid shooting. Thanks for uncovering Taylor. I'll keep in mind in the future.

Loved the first 2 picks, hated the next 2 picks, so-so with Robbins, and liked the last 2 picks for the most part.  It smells like a C.

15) tarheel1991 Larry Bird.

A great choice. Arguably should go between 5 and 10 in any draft. Two great seasons that I really like. Can’t really go wrong with this pick. Round 2 Marcus Camby: Higher than expected but with such good rebounding, defense, assists and low negative numbers not a complete shock to go here. Should work well with Bird. Very curious to see who the final addition to the front line will be. Round 3 Clyde Drexler: What a steal! A mini-me version of LeBron. I probably should have taken him over Paul Pierce. Drexler and Bird together will kick some butt! Round 4 Penny Hardaway: I love this pick. Great 2pt FG%, solid assists, very good to excellent defense at 83. Low neagative numbers. 3 point shooting other that Bird is a concern. Round 5 Pau Gasol:  I dislike this pick. His CREB% is only over 30 in 2 seasons and the highest one he is just 30MPG. There's a very underrated Center out there that would have fit this team to a "T". The right Center or Center combo would have propelled this unit into a top five team. Round 6 Charles Oakley and Ryan Anderson: Oakley adds the rebounding that Gasol won't. Anserson is another nice pick. At about 18 MPG he gives needed 3 points shooting behind Bird. Surprisingly good rebounding and is 99% effective at SF. Another well thought out team. I see a top 10 team here and a dark horse to do playoff damage.

Liked all of the picks a bunch except for Gasol. B+ to an A-.

16) empenied – Bill Russell

Don’t like Russell at 16 mostly due to his low EFG%. His defense is about 70 now too which is a complete disgrace to the SIM management. Issues can be worked around. I liked Hakeem a lot better if you wanted to go big here. Also, Hakeem is a much better than Russell scorer and plays 100% defense. Round 2: Kevin McHale A perfect compliment to Russell. I recommend using him at PF to get the full 100% effectiveness. What else needs to be said? McHale does everything well that Russell doesn't do well and visa-versa. Round 3 Larry Nance: I like this pick for the 100% defense and very low negative numbers. I don't like this pick because Marques Johnson was available. When you use McHale at the PF position you have to get the best possible rebounding SF you can get. I know that you have Russell for about 45 MPG but he can't be your only rebounding demon in this league. Round 4 Sidney Moncrief: A very nice pick only because you got Jayson Terry in round 5. Moncrief and Terry will be very good together. If more rebounding and 3 point shooting aren't added in round 6 this team may drop out of playoff contention. Round 6 Ed Pinckney and Terrell Brandon: Pinckney adds rebounding and solid shooting to the SF position behind Nance but not any 3s. Brandon adds a lot of usage and assists. These are good 6th round pickups. There seems to be a nice blend of  players here with good and balanced numbers.

This team has a lot of good qualities but is missing some 3s. But, I really like the defense up front so it will get a B to B+.

17) ashamael David Robinson.

A great pick especially with that 100% defense. Like him a lot better than Russell who went higher. Round 2 Chauncey Billups: I like another PG better at this spot. That being said its still a great pick. Billups has great assists, defense, 3pters and low negative numbers. A contender is being built. But unless the boards are addressed in round 3 and even in round 4 the team may struggle to be the very best in the league. Round 3 Swen Nater: A great pick to help the Admiral with rebounding. But his D sucks. Even so this was the right pick. I was shocked that malone didn't take him because he fits his team's great offense/little defense experiment to a "T". Round 4 Michael Redd:  Another fantastic pick. Awesome offensive numbers. Helps the team with rebounding. Extremely low TO's. This team is contender right now and ash has three picks left which is scary. Round 5 Charlie Edge: A nice fit at SF for 24MPG. Adds rebounding and pretty low negative numbers. Awesome defense at 85. I like this team ash! Round 6 Mark Price and Samuel Dalembert:  Perfect fits. Dalembert went too low. He's got over 40% CREB and a high shooing percentage. The PF rotation with Nater is excellent overall. Price adds assists and 3 point bombs. This team is in the top 4 at least with a good chance to win the whole thing.

Great  team. All the parts seem to fit very well. There was a well designed plan too so an A to an A+.

18) chris_snid Kevin Garnett.

A very good pick. One great season at 100% SF which you have to use him at, unless you are crazy. A dominant SF who gets over 18% assists and plays 90 defense. Round 2 Tracy McGrady: Great pick if you know how to deal with 2 very high usage players. Now its time for the high percentage low usage role players. Looks to need a three point gunner with medium to low usage. This team will be fun to watch and I'll be looking at their box scores. Rebounding has to be the emphasis at this point for the rest of the draft or the season is lost already (in terms of the title). Round three Kris Humphies: A solid pick. I like Tyson Chandler a bit better because of the difference defense and because he can play about 5 more minutes per game. But Humphies has better usage than Chandler and will get some points in the paint. Round 4 Clifford Ray: Great rebounding added to the roster. Team's taking shape now. Look like a low to mid usage 3pt shooter is needed along with an assist guy. Round 5 Don Buse: I don't like Buse most of the time but  I Iove him here. Very good defense, low usage to compliment McGrady. Buse may have been had in round 6 though and another rebounder who can score inside is still needed. A couple of very good bigs were still here in rd 5. Round 6 Alonzo Mourning and Mike Dunleavy JR: I like Alonzo Mourning and his 100% defense here in the 0506 season as a backup. But based on minutes needs he will most likely be a starter with lower defense. Still will add great interior offense, good rebounding, and good defense with Humphies and Ray on the team already Alonzo was an excellent choice. Dunleavy Jr is a good offensive SF for the team. His rebounding at just over 15% CREB is a bit low in his best season. Thre aren't enough minutes behind McGrady and Garnett for Dunleavy Jr to get a full 36 MPG in at those positions. Don't like him backing up at PF for 15 plus minutes per game.

There was an obvious plan here. Alonzo isn't quite an "A" type of a big man at this level so an A-.

19) jayharvill – Traded with vancem. Karl Malone.

A solid pick. Malone will need help on the boards. Can’t play 100% at SF so the rebounding weakness is that much greater. Taken too high with better bigs left on the board. Round 2 John Stockton: Nice pick. So far pretty good. Round 3 Tyson Chandler: The perfect big man here. Great rebounding and awesome defense. Low usage too. Round 4 Walt Frazier: I really like this pick. You need some back court scoring. You got defense to boot! Love the guards. Round 5 Nick Anderson: I don like the pick as you really needed a big to help Chandler rebound. You got very lucky that Arvydas Sabonis was there in round 6! Round 6 number 2 pick = Andrei Kirilenko: Great snag here. Great defense for an SF. I recommend using a higher usage version of Stockton with more threes.

A pretty good team for the man's second try at this league. A solid B to a possible B+.

20) gunner21 – Hakeem

I like Hakeem going this high because of the new defensive ratings mostly. Round 2 Dr J: A great pick in round three or four as an SG. As an SF you get too many TO's in his best season. I recommend using his best SG season for this team. Round 3 Bobby Jones: Outstanding defense. A nice fit for this team id he is the SF and not the PF. Round 4 Maurice Cheeks: Better PGs with more offense were there for the taking. Round 5 Anthony Mason: Undrafted last season because his best season is only 96% at SF. Joakim Noah and Eric Dampier were both available and another true big man was needed. This group also needs 3s big time. Too much defense, too little usage and too few 3s = no playoffs for this group. Round 6 Bo Outlaw and Doc Rivers: I don't like Rivers as combo guard backing up Cheeks and Dr J. Not enough 3s at the guard spots and not quite enough offense overall. Outlaw is a good back up at Forward but he doesn't add the things that Mason and Jones don't have to be a great complimentary player off of the bench for this team. But teams strength overall is defense and high EFG%. Those two strong points could make this a playoff team. Some of the rest of the rosters, mine included, have some weak defenders and this team really doesn't have that negative trait. I'm going to watch this team closely. It may change my opinions about what it takes to win right now in a $52 Million league.

Great defense overall but a serious lack of three point shooting. Has a lot of my all time favorites on the roster so I'll give the team a C+ to a B-.

21) dh555 – Oscar Robertson

Oscar is a great pick here. High turnovers but awesome rebounding for a PG. Wish that his best season, IMO, had higher usage and more free throws. Round 2 Manu Ginobli: Sorry dh but I really dislike this pick since you already had Oscar. Great back court but waiting until the bottom of round three at the earliest to get a big is quite a gamble. Round 3 Marques Johnson: I love this pick. Great rebounding at SF with very good offense and very low negative numbers. Round 4 Emeka Okafur: A very nice player but doesn't provide much inside offense. Round 5 Joakim Noah: Another good pick but better rebounders and a better scoring C/PF  was available at this spot. The playoffs are possible if some steals are found in round 6. Ginobi is only good for 27 MPG and MJ is only good for 34 MPG. Round 6 Round 6 Andrew Bynum and Jerome Williams: Very good picks here. Rebounding was added even though it wasn't needed that badly. I like the team much better now. A very good team at this point. 3 point shooting is needed along with a bit more scoring when Ginobli and MJ aren't in the game. dh will figure this one out and we're looking at a playoff run now.

The more I look at the roster the more I like it. No strong inside scoring force makes this grade an A-.

22) xxevilivexx Shawn Marion

Marion’s best season is at 98% SF. Other than that I love this pick. Great rebounding, defense, and EFG. Negative number are very low. But, I look at him as the 3rd offensive option on a team in this league. Round 2 Dikembe Mutumbo: You're stuck with him. The only person more pi$$ed off then you right now is my pal Malone . . .  LOL! Oh well offensive is abundant in this league. Your D is excellent so far. GL finding enough FTAs to make this team a contender. Round 3 Cornbread Maxwell: A fine pick to mix with Marion at the forward position. No big scorers so far which is a concern. Grant Hill should have gone here though and if that had been the case then this team would have been a contender. Round 4 Dana Barros:  Better PGs were there at this pick. How good could this team have been if Hill would have been taken over Maxwell and if Penny Hardaway would have been taken instead of Barros? Round 5 Reggie Miller: Provides the offense that the team needs that's for sure. The team is very low in assists and needs more scoring. Don't like the playoff chances. Round 6 Erick Dampier and Jameer Nelson: Dampier is the right to backup Mutombo and Marion. Excellent choice here as rebounding was needed. Dampier has 17% OFF REB which is big plus. Nelson is another great back up. Neslon looks to be spending around 10 MPG at SG where he is only 98% effective unless you don't use the best season of Barros. I may have been wrong about this team before. Round 6 has helped them as much or better than any other squad. This team has extremely low negative numbers other than Maxwell's turnovers. xxevilivexx  has once again suprised me and might shock the league with this team.

Taking Dana Barros over Terry Porter, and then not taking Grant Hill instead of Maxwell knocks the grade down to a B+.

23) bluenote75 Dwayne Wade

A bit surprised that D-Wade went so low. A dominant player at PG. A bit high on TO’s for my taste but always does well in this league. Lots of 2nd round talent left to help him out. Round 2: Ben Wallace. A nice pick. I may have taken Walton or another unnamed and undrafted player instead. D Wade will need some scoring help. Some inside offense may have been a better idea. Round 3 Peja Stojakovic: A nice pick who has to be used at SG in this league. But Brent Barry should have been the pick to go with D Wade. Barry gives you so much more than Peja overall. Round 4 Lamar Odom: A very nice fit but I like Grant Hill much better here. Also inside offense was sorely needed. Round 5 Zach Randolph: A great pick here. One excellent season. Makes a lot of free throws, gets rebounds, and has low negative numbers other than his defense. I can smell a playoff run coming! Round 6 Paul Milsap and Paul Pressey: Milsap was a great find here. Excellent rebounding at SF and very goof EFG%. 90 defensefor the 18 MPG year which is super. A nice back up to Odom and Randolf. It looks like the Pressey pick won't be for the most expensive season. Pressey's best season is at 36 MPG and if the plan is to use him to back up Wade, Peja and Odom than it may be a brilliant move. I love Pressey's 90 defense, decent FG%, very good assists, above average rebounding at guard and moderate usage. This team is sleeper and just might be contender.

Could have been an A or an A+. But taking by Peja over Barry and Odom over Hill could have  lowered the Grade to a B+ but round 6 saves the day so an A- is the final grade.

24) jweb1510 Tim Duncan
I like Duncan at this spot. TD is a solid all around big man. Round 2 Ray Allen: There were better SGs out there. Don't like him going this high in this league. One things for sure is that this team will be scoring points inside and out which is always a plus. But more rebounds were needed. I would have loved to have seen a lower usage big go at that this spot to compliment TD. Round 3 Bob Lanier: Always an underrated big man. 84 defense and he can score inside. A very good pick. Round 4 Derek Harper: A great fit here. Very good defense, nice dimes and fairly low turnovers. Round 5 Clarence Weatherspoon: Good SF in round 5. Adds rebounds. But overall the team looks to be a little bit light in the rebounding department. Round 6 Kenny Smith and Mark Landsberger: Very interesting. Kenny Smith has 2 great seasons to choose from.  Smith has a season with 59 EFG% and can back up Harper or Allen. Smith also assists at about a 20% rate for that season. Landsberger is a fine backup to Duncan with super rebounding numbers at around 14 MPG.  I predict a playoff team here.

This team is very efficient and will make plenty of 3s. Slightly weak rebounding along with guards in Allen and Smith that don't rebound or defend well = a B in this league.

Random thoughts:

Shaq is way better than Kareem in the sim.  It's the fact that he misses so many free throws that he's even affordable.  So good job making the right choice.

Howard is the 2nd or third best big man in the sim right now (after Wilt, arguable with Moses).  He might be top 5 worthy (rodman, lebron, wilt, mj, Howard)

Just cause vancem won with cp3 doesn't mean he's that good that high.  I still don't think he's 1st day worthy... 2nd half of 1st round, sure.

Might be early for Love, but he is definitely a 1st round pick now.  I think he's a 1st day pick, actually.  His weak defensive rating is easily overlooked by the 3s he gives you, the ton of ftas per min... oh and the guy grabs a couple of rebounds.  Nobody in this sim comes close to giving you the number of rebounds he does WHILE being a solid 3-point option.  That being said, I wish he'd take less twos.

You guys shouldn't have let me get Admiral so late.

How do you compare Hakeem to Russell in this sim?  They fulfill completely different roles.  Too high for the dream, IMO.  He's a round 2 at best.  Too high for Russell, but not by much.  He's a round 2/day 1 pick.

Mailman is a borderline fantastic pick.  He was the last great paint scorer left, so that's great.  You need boards badly, though, so that's bad.  You pick before I do in round 2, which makes me sad. qq for me and you too.

I'm still not huge on Bird in the sim, but it can work (and isn't that hard to make work pretty well, just not sure it's championship worthy).  I think he went about where he should go.

Big O went right where he should have.

Matrix is a great pick but I agree with everything vancem said here.

D-Wade is a borderline top 10 pick.  If I hadn't just had a borderline-decent high volume guy on my last team, I would have taken him.  I decided to go back to my old paint scorer strategy, so we'll see.  Anyway, don't screw up and think D-Wade is a SG because he's not (in the sim)

Rodman went way too low.

Lebron should come before MJ, sad as that is.

Barkley's a borderline top 10 pick now unless you have some balls.  Do you have balls, mikee?  I think you might!

ash, if postage would've bailed sooner, I had a deal worked out with captainzen to trade picks throughout the draft, and then I would have taken the Admiral at #14.  I actually had a dream a few nights ago that I met him, so I figured it was prophetic.  I ended up with Timmy D instead, so I'll take that as a consolation prize.

"Barkley's a borderline top 10 pick now"

im surprised to hear you knock your boy down a peg....for me there is a clear cut top 5(wilt,rodman,lebron,jordan,moses) and then barkley would be in that 6-10 range....what made him drop out of your top 10?...too pricy now i guess?
6/14/2011 7:40 PM
WAY pricier, not 100% at SF (though 99 ain't bad), even lower defense than before, hard to build around him while taking full advantage of his strengths (low third tier usage most seasons... even his "best" season is 26.7.  The 2498 minutes season is 2nd tier, but that shouldn't be used in this format).  Basically, Dwight Howard is superior to him in almost every way that's important in the sim.  Unless you bite the bullet and use him at SF.  Most people are too scared to do it, though.  To me, after Rodman, Wilt, Lebron, MJ, Howard & Moses, it gets pretty cluttered and less clear who are the best values.  88 Barkley at the 3 is borderline top 10.  I'd include Magic, Wade, Shaq, Kareem, Admiral, Kidd & Love in that discussion as to who comes next.  Then Oscar, Bird, Gilmore, Mailman, cp3, (guy that hasn't been drafted yet) & (another guy that hasn't been drafted yet) I feel like are the next tier.
6/14/2011 7:51 PM
yea...i was never even considering him a pf....he gives you such a great rebounding advantage at the sf it seems silly to play him elsewhere
6/14/2011 7:59 PM
Love is an interesting case...obviously he brings the kitchen sink but I'm just not sure I would ever take a guy with defense that low in the 1st round at this cap.

this ain't the $52M of old.  This is more like a $45M league (didn't exist but you could get away with a slack defender in a $47M of old).  Still, I know what you mean.  It's hard to use a top 10 pick on a guy that's a "defensive liability"

Well, it's just that the amount of 85-90+ defenders - who can also rebound - and won't kill you in other ways - has drastically shrunk. There just aren't many guys like that around past the middle of the second round. If you have a 35 defender in the paint, but can pair him with a 90 defender and an 80+ backup? Yeah, you might be OK. But how many of those guys - that will be able to rebound, not kill you with efg%/fouls, and defend - will you find 40-45+ picks in?

That's the beauty of draft leagues like this.  Everybody is gambling on something and almost everybody loses at some point.

i have a real plan with Love...it will make alot of sense at the end...i think

well you're certainly setting up to have a dynamic offense...but I'll go ahead and say now that, even with the effects of defense being somewhat murky in the SIM, I'm skeptical that a team starting two guys with defense ratings of 40 or less can be a real contender at this cap. There often isn't a whole lot distinguishing teams in 52 mil (even the new 52 mil), especially in the playoffs, so when you get there and your team is equal in most regards but significantly weaker on defense, you have a problem.

I guess my overall point would be: at 52 mil, if you're going to skimp on defense (especially in the early rounds of a draft league), you'd darn well better make sure that your team is overpowering enough in other areas to make up for it.

threes help you win games you aren't supposed to win.  Ask the 2011 Mavericks!
6/15/2011 6:03 PM
In defense of my Mavs, I will say they held the Heat to 95 or less in 5 of the 6 games.... :)
