Eliminating the pictures and adding more stats would probably make it a lot better.
Also eliminate players from the ballot if they don't get any votes in any year.
Only problem with that is that I've seen players listed as being on the ballot the previous season who received no votes who were AI nominated and certainly worthy of receiving votes. I don't remember seeing them on the ballot the season before because some of these guys would have received my vote.
My guess is that what happens on those occasions is that they retire after going unsigned at the end of spring training and get AI nominated and are added to the ballot at the last minute, quite literally. After everybody who is going to vote has already voted.
You don't want' those guys dropping off the ballot for receiving no votes.
My suggestion:
1) Don't add these guys to the ballot at the last minute. The ballots are fixed as of when voting starts.
2) When a guy gets nominated by an owner, he tends to stay on the ballot indefinitely until he is explicitly removed. Owner nominated guys should not be carried over from season to season, they should need to be explicitly re-nominated each season.
3) If an AI nominated guy gets no votes in some season, he no longer can be AI nominated in future seasons. However, he can be eligible for re-nomination by an owner.
