Couple of facts:

His record is at a DII school.  Mine is at DIII.  We were "competing" for a DII job.

He has not been coaching for 6 seasons.

He had two seasons at DIII before this without making the NT.

Both of our reputations are "spotless".

I have a A+ Loyalty.

My conclusions are:

* Higher level coaching experience must be worth a lot.   This guy had limited success at  DII but it is still more qualified than a reasonably successful DIII coach.

* The # of total seasons coached has some value.  Maybe it equals out over 10 (or some other number) but the fact I only have 4 seasons must have hurt me.

Just thinking out loud, this may all ready be common knowledge to everyone but me!

I think it is because of the new Job Hiring logic, that is basing a lot on the last 10 years.
12/18/2011 9:27 PM
Higher level experience does indeed matter, and I think it makes sense.
12/18/2011 9:42 PM
I agree with tianyi, it makes sense, he has more years at D2 whereas you only have 4 years at D3 and he has two NT bids compared to your 3. Not a big difference between the two of you's but I'd say his D2 experience gave him the edge.
12/18/2011 9:54 PM
trentonjoe, I'd give it to the other coach here. His NT appearances at D2 simply are worth a lot more than yours at D3. There are plenty of things to complain about with the current jobs process, but imho, this isn't one of them.

i do not for the life of me understand how with an A- loyalty I am not qualified for a single job. An A- is like 92% in the real world.  That's pretty damn good.  If I had friends and co-workers that were 92% loyal to me, I'd say it was a pretty darn good day at the office.  Nevermind the fact that it shouldn't take 5 years to come back from a lateral D1 move.  Nevermind the fact that you can now make a lateral D1 move and not have to wait 5 seasons to get full loyalty back but there was nothing put in to help those of us that were over-penalized.  Nevermind the fact that there is really no point to having mulitple tiers of loyalty grades if the only ones that matter are A+ and everything else.

This has pretty much been the most anger inducing day of my WIS life between losing an unqualified early entry at my mid major, losing a recruit whose last scholarship email said i was leading, and now not being able to move out of a situation where I have A- loyalty  even though I've been at 2 schools in 9 seasons...which in the real world of coaching, is pretty loyal.  To top it off, this team that I took the lateral move to coach, has made the NT in (all) 4 straight seasons, been in the top 20s RPI and ranked twice, the top 50 RPI all 4 seasons, has a S16 appearance, had 3 draft picks and 7 all americans....and my prestige has DROPPED to B-.

Seble, today you are not my favorite person.  I hope tomorrow brings me forgiveness.

Grambling St to Tenn back in the day was a step-back for me.  I won the NT 3 years later, and could not move to my alma mater (had an opening at the time) due to the hit on loyalty.  This is one aspect of hiring logic I still hate.

Man that would suck.

my D1 resume:

Season 35:     21-9     127 RPI
Season 36:     22-8     97 RPI          CT Champion     NT 1st Round
Season 37:     25-4     39 RPI                                        NT 1st Round
Season 38:     26-6     39 RPI                                        NT Sweet 16
Season 39:     25-6     39 RPI          CT Champion    NT 2nd Round
Season 40:     27-3     21 RPI          CT Champion    NT 1st Round
Season 41:     25-5     42 RPI          CT Champion    NT 1st Round
Season 42:     23-9     47 RPI          CT Champion    NT Sweet 16
Season 43:     28-2     26 RPI          CT Champion    NT 1st Round

Overall that is 222-52 (81%)     6 CT Championships, 8 NT bids, 5 NT wins which I have to imagine is pretty decent for a mid major.

But the Wisconsin and Florida jobs in Phelan I'm not qualified for because I haven't proven that I can win year in and year out at this level lol.  Oh how I love you HD

whats ur loyalty at right now? I know you switched jobs recently.
12/20/2011 12:39 AM
it wasn't recently.  im going into my 5th season since changing.  there are other jobs im not qualified for because my loyalty is A-, which is bogus in itself...but these particular jobs say i haven't proven i can win.  that's all brutal enough on it's own except that shqipta at Utah isn't qualified to move up either...and he has the best non BCS program in the entire Phelan universe over the last dozen or so seasons.
