Recruiting debacle! Topic

Can someone explain to me why a recruit would give me a message saying he's looking to play at a bigger level or a better program then turn around and consider a school with less prestige than mine? Did something change in the recruiting logic? It's not a distance thing either.

those messages dont really have any meaning other than that you have not sold him - what the recruit gives as reasons are just show

So you're saying just keep on them. But when I do I constantly get declined HV and CV's. Then another school, a lesser school, swoops in and he considers them. I just think its illogical. I have other drop downs who hold my schollie and do the same thing but end up considering schools with the same prestige as mine. I really don't get that. Is it just player preference or does coaching history come into play like past NC's or NT bids?

I dont know whats happening in your particular recruiting situation.  I can tell you that the REASONS the kid states are in my experience cosmetic - it just means you are losing.  Maybe the other guy made promises or spent a lot of effort on him or - rarely - used boosters.

Need of course to compare prestige, rep, distance, number of schollies available, budget from postseason, what other battles the other coach faces, etc

and Merry Christmas

Sounds like the other coach has pulled the player down and you haven't.  The fact that you're constantly getting your HV/CVs declined tells me it's a higher division kid, and if a lower prestige school is on him, then it seems like he's been pulled down by the other school.

It's prestige and recruiting effort. The only other thing might be if the other team is within 70 miles and you're not. But it basically sounds like the other team is simply putting in the recruiting effort that you're not to get the player to consider them.

If he's a dropdown who hasn't come down yet, then yes, they're going to reject your visits. So you can either pull them down or wait.
Also, what do you mean by "holding your schollie"?

I had it happen too recently Red.  Had a recruit I wanted that was D1 for my D2 Naismith team.  My prestige is an A.  He was about 140 miles away, but told me no chance, higher level, look elsewhere, etc.  I moved on and ended up with a lesser player, but was then shocked when he signed with a B prestige conference mate.  Couldn't understand why he would blow off an A prestige but sign with a B.  Guess it just happens sometimes.

This is a debacle?

Yes it's a debacle unless you have the answer to my question. If so please share. And girt I mean he's holding the schollie as a backup option in case his other options dont pan out. Not considering me but also didn't flat out reject my offer. Yet he will consider schools with lesser prestige before even sending me the ok let's talk message after said options don't pan out. That's exactly what I mean milk this is happening to me.

Also girt the player has dropped and is still undecided and still rejecting HV and CV.

So he's now on your D2 list and considering no one, but won't take any visits? (Previously you had said he was considering another school.) That does seem more odd. I would send some scouting trips along with the visits.

If you think that there is actually something wrong, I would highly suggest sending a ticket rather than worrying about it here, because if there is a problem, that's the only way it will get fixed.

Well there was more than one recruit the previous considering lower prestige school thing was for another recruit. Sending a ticket now.

Sounds like the other school pulled him down.

Yes with player 1 the other school pulled him down with the same prestige as me. With player 2 the kid dropped without consideration from any school and is rejecting HV and CV. I found another player of a similar calibur who just did the same thing at this last cycle. Declined a CV. what's up with that? And all phone calls come back positive saying I would like to know more and then rejection. Major failure.

Players can reject HVs and CVs as a routine course of business, even when they're at your divisional level.  They may accept some HV/CVs, but not all of them for whatever reason.  If you just sent a single HV and/or a single CV and concluding that he won't accept any, I don't think you can conclude very much from that...esp. if there weren't any phone calls or letter(s) sent to the kid.  If you sent 4 or 5 of each during a single cycle and he rejected all of them AND this happened when he was on your divisional screen (i.e. D3 screen if this is in D3), or if you've tried in multiple cycles (and have also sent some letters and calls to help out), then we may have a problem.  I can't tell which of these scenarios you're talking about for player 2.

I think instances of coaches in D3 reporting that kids on their D3 screen not accepting HVs/CVs whatsoever have been mentioned on the forums before over the past few months.  And, iirc, I think seble has said this would be a glitch in the matrix and a ticket should be sent during recruiting so they can look at the situation and see what may be causing this.
