I was interested in starting a progressive in 1979/80 when Larry and Magic entered the NBA but when I researched there were only 317 players-theoretically oenough (288 needed) for a 24 team league but I was afraid there would not be enough minutes. So I thought, what if we added 1951/52 ? That would add another 101 players.

We would have Bird, Johnson, Abdul-Jabbar, Moses Malone, Parish, and others from 1979/80 and Mikan, Arizin, Cousy, Schayes, Neil Johnston and others from 1951/52. Probably most starters would be from the later era but perhaps Arizin, certainly Petit when he comes into the league, and a few others from the earlier era would be starters and at least they would be subs for minutes needed. The 2nd season would be 1980/81 & 1952/53 etc.

The initial draft will be snake style. Subsequent drafts will be inverse order of finish except that there will be a weighted lottery among the 6 teams with the worst record for the first 6 picks in the first round only. Additionally, teams must have at least 19,000 minutes on their prior year's roster to qualify for the lottery. No rookies.

Lets see if there is any interest. I'll start it by taking the St. Louis Hawks (I grew up in St. Louis). Any NBA or ABA team name is ok, although let's not have 2 Rockets teams etc.

I added rules for the initial and subsequent draft. Please note that there is a requirement for at least 20,000 minutes on the roster to qualify for the draft lottery in subsequent years. With the number of players available that should not be a problem but will require owners to be careful in drafting.
