Hardball Dynasty – Fantasy Baseball Sim Games - Player Profile: Robb Ross

I play in St. Louis, which is not extreme but favors pitchers, but this guy cannot find his groove.

Can a -1 ballpark like St. Louis really hinder a guys performance like this? Or am I wrongly assuming that, based on his ratings, he should be a much better hitter?

He has a career OPS over .800.   In your 2 full seasons, you've only had 3 hitters do that for a single season.  One of them was him.   What are your expectations?

Comparing him to my other hitters isn't fair-- my other hitters are mediocre at best. I expect better production than a .265 lifetime average and teetering around 100 RBIs each year. Too much to ask?

I'm with Mike. I would expect stats similar to Season 7. I'm not sure i'd play him at 2B though.

I was just using them for context.    I played 4 seasons in STL.  I think it suppresses hitting pretty well.    I think, on his career, he's underperforming a bit but probably not what you're thinking.   Maybe 275/340/480.    RBI are a product of opportunity.     This is the closest I've got in Memphis.

He's pretty similar but with more power/less contact.   I feel like he's overperforming a bit.

You're only 50 games in. Also RBI are a product of team work. If your other hitter are not geting on base then he can't hit them in. Also He should not be playing second base. He would be a 1st/ COF guy on most teams.

There's a player in my world whose OPS always under-performed his hitting attributes (at least so I thought).  Turns out he spent a season in a hitter's park, now a season on an offense-oriented team and his production has gone up.  http://whatifsports.com/HBD/Pages/Popups/PlayerProfile.aspx?pid=2783412.  These are important factors, but not the most important ones, IMO.

He had a similar combination of assets: good eye/contact/splits, RH, decent but not overwhelming power, and bad base-running.  I think if you take any hitter with the first (good hitting skills) and improve just one of the other elements, he will turn into a great hitter.

He's improved significantly in the last two seasons, but based on his current #'s, I would think he's in the .315 (probably .320)-.375-.540 range.  he is significantly underproducing.  I've had guys do that....but never with a guy who has that high of Makeup.

Weird.

Unless it's a hitting heavy world with little regard to pitching/fielding, I don't see any way he hits .300 in a pitcher's park.   Most worlds have 20-30 .300 hitters and maybe 10 over .315.     He's not one of those guys.

What about this guy? Sorry can't link on this device.

Signed him to a mega deal before the season and he has put up more 0-4 games than I can count. I play in a neutral park (0, 0, 0, 0, 1)

Dee is a chick's name and it's half a season.   He's probably playing in heels.   Make him wear some nice flats.

Right on cue, Ross goes 2-4 with a three run homer.

I guess my main question for making this thread was how much of an impact St. Louis or a very similar pitchers park has on hitters.
3/6/2012 8:47 PM
Mike, I play in an absolutely neutral ballpark.  ClaytonRollins has essentiall the same numbers as Ross, perhaps a bit better eye but less power and no speed.

Rollins is a .305-.384-.472 guy.  No speed what-so-ever!  Ross is a better hiter.  Can fly and has that great makeup.  No way he's a less than .290 hitter..or shouldn't be.

25 hitters in your world batting over .318.
