I've never had a player like this before.  Robert Holt is average-ish at everything.  I look at the combined skill and see that he's more talented that your typical D3 small forward.  But since he doesn't excel at anything, I'm not really sure how good he is.   He's probably not good enough on the offense to score himself - I haven't really tried - and I'm not sure he's good enough to set up others, although he at least shouldn't rack up the turnovers.  On the defensive end and on the boards, he should hold his own but he is going to be exposed by the track-star type of players.

So is this player any good?  Would you be ok with him starting on your D3 team?

yup and yup

I would start him at sf but he could also play sg depending on matchups...

The only thing I would worry about is if someone started a fast guard at SF and even then the REB advantage would even it out.

This is actually the type of SF I prefer to play, I have had success with them starting

Those players for me are always a bit of hit-and-miss. I've had all-midrange SF's do very well, I've had others that were like banging my head against a wall because they never seemed to perform to the level the overall player rating would lead me to believe they should. At absolute worst though, they're a complete dream to have because of the versatility as you can stack them at multiple reserve spots and make a sixth-man out of them if they don't seem to be contributing up to snuff in a starting role.

I disagree with most of the above comments.  I would much prefer a 50/70, 20 reb guard with 75+ per at SF.  The guy you have is a mediocre-at-best defender with no real scoring skill.

Here are some questions:

1. Do you reallty want that guy taking perimeter shots?
2. Is his ath/spd/lp good enough to score inside with any real efficiency?
3. Do you want him defending even a decent scoring SF?
4. Are his 4-5 rebounds per game sufficient to make up the difference if the answers to the above questions are "no"?

I think the answer to every one of those questions is "no."  If you're going with a mediocre scorer, I think you need a much better defender.  That guy is just kind of blah everywhere

i personally do not like this type of player.  Low Ath/Spd and not really good at anything.  They can be effective with a decent IQ, but personally i think they hardly ever perform up to their overall rating.

Is a 50-50-50 guy at DIII not good?   I see this guy as pretty solid, not low ATH/SPD/DEF.

It's kinda low.  That said, I've had a few players very much like that and they were much more successful than I had anticipated, scored better than I thought they would, and generally contributed good all-around numbers.

It's pretty low ath/spd/def, especially for a JR*.

I think he's fine coming off the bench.  I think 50/50 is low for a SF in D3.  If I'm taking a 50/50 guy, he's either going to be 65+ def or a combination of 130+ in lp/per.

For example, http://whatifsports.com/hd/PlayerProfile/Stats.aspx?tid=3795&pid=2047664

Cannon is a better scorer and defender than the OP's guy, but hasn't been anything special.  Maybe an additional 30 reb would, but I doubt it would turn him into a superstar.  That said, he has been fine coming off the bench.

I've had a few guys similar to this on teams in the past and have always been very pleased with their production, none have ever been studs but they always hold their own. I always get the feeling the sim "likes" or "favors" guys like this because of their versatility.

I think his athleticism is good, and it makes up for his other average attributes.  He should be a pretty good player.....

This guy is a nice 2nd/3rd option depending on your other available scorers.  I would expect you could get 7-10 ppg at 47%ish FG% (or better).

I disagree somewhat about his defense - it is good enough for a zone if you have other good defenders as well.  And, yes, he can take perimeter shots but not a ton of threes.  I'd set him at -1 and let him score.  He should pick up a couple assists a game too.

I would bump up my prediction for this scoring if he was on the court with a decent distributing guard.  A really good BH/P guard with some ATH/SPD can make other players better.  Like a 50/80/70/70+ ATH/SPD/BH/P type.
