$20 M in advance scouting is the absolute truth... Topic

"We know that $20 mil. for adv scouting is absolute truth."

This was posted in the WC of one of my worlds. The poster diagreed with me that the former statement was not accurate, he also quoted some portion of the "Help" tab (I wasn't able to find where, maybe someone could point me in the right direction if they find it). That portion of the "Help" tab he quoted is below.

"Advance Scouting Department - The advance scouts are responsible for projecting the ratings of all signed players within the franchis"e and on other franchises. The higher the budget, the more accurate your projected ratings will be for all players who have not yet reached the peak of their career. After a player reaches his peak, projected and current ratings are the same."

Rather than get into a big WC debate, I said I would post in the forums and ask for successful, experienced owners to comment on the truth of "...$20 mil for adv scouting" being the "absolute truth."

So thats what I'm doing.

Any experienced, successful owners who want to post on how adv scouting works (especially with regards to how much or little you budget in that department), and would be willing to explain it as if they were explaining it to a new player, I think that might be educational for some of the owners (maybe myself included).

Thanks in advance.

I would assume that if this is true: "Advance Scouting Department - The advance scouts are responsible for projecting the ratings of all signed players within the franchis"e and on other franchises. The higher the budget, the more accurate your projected ratings will be for all players who have not yet reached the peak of their career. After a player reaches his peak, projected and current ratings are the same."

Then this would be true: "We know that $20 mil. for adv scouting is absolute truth."?

Thats not true. 20 mil scouting provides the most accurate numbers, but not exact. There is a reason why so many coaches are at zero.

Spending $20M on advance scouting does not give you the exact truth on projections. There have been years of posts on the topic and WIS hasn't changed the algorithm in years, if ever.

Coaching, playing time, injuries, making the playoffs all impact development.  How can there be a perfect projection when those things can change development at anytime. What would you base the perfect projections on?  Perfect coaching?  Playing every inning of every game?

Coaching, playing time, injuries, making the playoffs all impact development.........show me where you got this imformation?..........i wish someone from HBD would comment.

Mongoose, it doesn't matter whether or not you can convince someone else how important advance scouting is, or is not. What matters is whether or not you are able to project players ratings based on development patterns. If you can, you don't need it, if you can't, then you do.

ADV is a "best guess".   You're "smarter" at 20m but you're not perfect.

Have your league member look up "projections" and report back to you.

Training affects physical development.
Coaching affects learned skills.
Playing time ties it all together.
Injuries often come with a ratings hit.
Playoffs allow for more playing time.

I understand what projections means mike thank you. I also understand that these are not real people, and they must have a number alocated for their maximum potential in any given attribute, and because this is a computer game i am assuming that $20mil in advanced scouting will buy you that number. Now the coaching and playoffs and injury can only retard the potential growth but that original maximum alocated number was true blue and thats how i see it. do you have imformation that can dispute that?

My oringinal point within my world (Evangeline League) went unheard wich was this: Owners within my league who have $0 alocated for advance scouting complain the most about cash involved in trades to balance trades out. My guess is that its because they can't see true overall numbers so each trade is virtually blind to them. by complaining all the time the world is virtually teetering on adding a rule that prohibits using cash in most trade situations, and the practice of purchasing prospects for cash well ssshhh thats taboo, although most of the league spends all their extra cash they save in adv scouting on prospects. wich is yeah buying players.......... I don't care that most of the league has abandoned adv scouting to use their algarythym, i just want to be able to use my own strategy to my own strenghts without having portions of the game closed off to me. not by whatifsports, but by the consensus majority advanced scouting deserters.

If you read through the DevChats and the Help, you'll get that info Mike offered, so rather than being a smart ***, be nice.  He just saved you a ton of reading about when WIS will indroduce new parks and other crap like that.

As for the buying and selling of players and inclusion of cash to "balance things out", that's frowned upon in most good worlds because people doing the selling and receiving the funds are usually getting out of a poorly set budget.  Not because the buyer is getting a "Deal".

Finally, those with zero advanced scouting (including myself) are usually pretty aware of what all but the very youngest players are going to look like... so it's not like we feel like we're missing out.

The development patterns arent tough to figure out.  Coupled with makeup and the players age... ?  What more would you need to know?

This is all common knowledge for those of us who have playing this game from the beginning.

You can look back at all the HBD Developer Chats if you wish to see for yourself, but you'll spend a lot of time looking for this specific information.
