Wrong is a tough word.  In reading thru this SM exchange I get the feeling that there is more to the picture than just this draft and it's starting time, am I wrong to "get that"?

In the leagues I run I do not schedule timed draft slots on 12/25 or Thanksgiving Day. I consider the other 363 days of the year fair game.

Anyone has the right to join or leave a progressive, but I see nothing out of bounds with what the commissioner has done here.

Rooskie is a great commissioner. He runs a lot of good progressive leagues. He runs a tight ship and is not adverse to cracking the whip. I had no idea a draft was imminent. I am really looking forward to our cruise down to Mexico. I don't want to even think about keeping track of picks and arranging proxies. I knew there would be no postponement so I thought the best thing to do is give him notice so he could find a replacement. Was that wrong. He seems to think my reason is no good and now I am banned from all his leagues.

ok...if you want to put it that way, I significantly discount the opinion of anyone who hasn't been a commissioner... until ypu've tried to organize and run a league, your complaints hold much less weight in my view.

my comment directly above is not aimed at the OP, just in case that's not clear.

It is his league so he can schedule whenever.

I was not going to participate in this draft. I had a schedule conflict. As soon as I found out I resigned to give him time to replace me.

I have been around a long time. Commissioners know I don't bail. I honor my commitments. I make my picks on time and enter my teams on time.

Rooskie says I am leaving in bad standing. That my reason is lame. That is what I object to.

Lots of people travel during the holidays. The roads and airports are crowded. I stand by my comment about scheduling at that time even though I would support a commissioners rights to do what he sees fit.

Well, I consider you to be a stand-up guy and I have no personal issue with you. I am trying to understand exactly what your issue is...it sounds like you left the league because the commissioner wouldn't adjust the schedule to accommodate your personal availability.

If I am mistaken about that, I apologize, but that ishow it reads to me. In which case I side with the commish.

I think blacklisting you from his other leagues is extreme, but if it were me I would make it clear that I use the same scheduling practices in all of my leagues, and I would invite you to consider that when deciding to participate in other leagues that I run.

I would also say that I try to publish exact schedules for my drafts weeks in advance, and I typically post at least the list of rookies at the same time.

Let me just ask you these 2 questions.

How many seasons does his leagues get done in a 12 month period????

Who would you rather deal with a commish like rooskie or a commish that allows an owner to hold up a league so he can cash in his anticipated playoff money???

if rooskie treated a member of any readers family the way rooskie does no reader would call rooskie great...thats how i look at it...i am in leagues with great commissioners most importantly because they are good people..there is nothing complicated here.

I left league because I knew there would not be a delay. I left the league as soon as I found out about the conflict

. I did not ask for special treatment. I did state my opinion in general about scheduling during the holidays.. But that was just my opinion.

I didn't just disappear like some owners. I said I had a conflict. I gave as much notice as I could. I said I was leaving and he called me a jerk.

This league goes through at least five seasons a year.

I have nothing bad to say about Rooskie or the league.

My problem is I dropped out as soon as I knew I would not be able to participate in the draft. He said my reason was lame and I was leaving in bad standing. aka banned from returning or entaring another Rooskie league

I would say that the number 1 thing that keeps progressive's going is when someone has a bad team but has a potential future ahead that you get as many seasons down ASAP and keep the down time between seasons to a min.   Its a shame that he feels the need to resort to these tactics to keep his league going but it seems to be working with his leagues doesn't it???
12/15/2015 6:17 PM
No problem with league or tactics.

I was trying to do what I thought was the best thing.

My problem is being labeled as a bad guy for putting my family first.

This all sounds like a communication problem to me.  Perhaps Rooskie was harsh in his language and opinion regarding your "reason" for leaving the league.  I expect that was caused by his disappointment at losing a good owner (and having to replace another owner!!).  Had I been in your league I would have volunteered to handle all your draft picks by proxy with whatever level of contact/guidance you wished to provide.  Dino 27......... IMO your comments here aren't helping anything. You're just pushing a personal agenda (publicizing your grudge with Rooskie).  Do a Beatles!  "Let it Be"
