Just venting.....I am so frustrated with this player. He continues to attempt to steal bases and I don't understand why, Team setting is on average.

He bats leadoff, thus he is always on base with hitters at the plate. I would actually increase to aggressive but I can't because this dude will go billy ham on me.

He has a 70 in baserunning so looks normal to me. You have it adjusted to high if you do not want him to attempt.
BASE STEALING
The base stealing setting controls the frequency a team will attempt to steal bases. A less aggressive setting will only allow a fast, intelligent runner to attempt a stolen base when conditions are favorable. A more aggressive setting will allow slower runners and create more attempts.

His numbers look right to me for a player with 70 Baserunning and 53 Speed. I understand why you have him at Leadoff, but if he's going to stay there the Steal setting should be Infrequent. Depending on how fast or slow the rest of your players are, I might even drop it to Rare.

Agree regarding the managerial settings. I am not sure how tough it would be to have settings for each player. Maybe it will jam up the games too much...not sure.

If there were individual settings, you would have teams stealing bags at a 98% rate, because the only players that would ever run would be the 90/90 BR/SP guys. The settings are the way they are to keep the teams stealing bases at a real life rate. Hope that makes sense.

But, if the sim wants to be like real baseball, it should do that. The best basestealers will have high SB accuracy rates (i.e. Ricky Henderson, Trea Tuner, etc.) and should have a high amount of attempts to maximize value.

Exhibit A: Player in one of my leagues has 89 Baserunning and 100 Speed. His lifetime major league SB stats are 487 and 15. He's 97% lifetime, 98% in this, his age-30 season.
He's had seasons of 120, 116 and 107 SBs. He's already ridiculous.

Because SBs are set by TEAM, his teammates are a few guys going 3 for 10, 5 for 12. That kind of thing. His team success rate is around 75%, which is still pretty high. I would guess his team setting is Aggressive, because there are a few other runners on the team, and the team is among the league SB leaders.

If you customized the settings by player, you could run this guy on Very Aggressive. He'd steal 160. You could make his slow teammates never run at all. His team success rate would end up around 95%.

I'd guess that to reprogram the base running settings to make them individual, you'd have to recalibrate the baserunning ratings completely.

Some of the greatest baserunners in the history of the game still only had 75-80 success rates. So, I guess if you have one of the above-mentioned guys on your team, you better turn it all the way up and pray that the guy gets on base more than any other player.

Here's my guy. He is the sole reason I took over this team some 4 or 5 seasons ago:

Player Profile: Rico Villanueva

His best season so far he went 124-1. This season he is 111-1 so far. For his BL career he is 739-11. His worst season was 90-3.
As a team I am at 80% so far this season, cause I have quite a few good speedy runners in addition to him.
I do have some other guys who are not good and shouldn't be running (one is 9-9, another is 0-3, another is 18-14).
I have it on Very Aggressive all day every day.

Geez. That guy is sick. Normally I want power, split and eye out of a corner OF. This guy is an obvious exception.

He's probably best suited for 1B. I'm curious how many first basemen in the history of the game (real life) could actually run like that.

I play him at DH, and I'm perfectly fine with that... Used to play LF when I first took the team over. Then to 1B once I got a real LF, and then to DH when I got a much better defender at 1B.

He also affords me the luxury (may or may not ever use) that if I were to get a truly great hitting slugger at DH, I could put him back at 1B.

He finished up at 118-2.
As a team we went 323-82 for .798% which is a strong success rate IMO. Take him out and we still stole at a 72% clip (205/80), which is still acceptable.

When you get a guy like that, you have to maximize his value. Nice job doing so.

Domingo finished finished the season with 13 SB ans 8 CS, team 158 SB and 53 cs, .748 set on average for the entire season.
