Baseline Prestige. WTF is the point? Topic

If baseline prestige never changes then what is the point? The name of the game is Hoops DYNASTY.
So say I have a low baseline prestige school, go to several final 4's and elite 8's over a decade. Maybe one season they go to championship game and lose but then win it the next year. The start of a Dynasty. Then I have a couple of bad years and my prestige goes back down to baseline. Meanwhile you have the UNC's and Duke's of the world that no matter what they do will always have a high prestige. I mean isn't the reason why Duke and UNC have such a high prestige is because of their success over many years which created their Dynasty? IMO, baseline prestige is the worst part of the game.

I kinda like baseline prestige. Adds a unique wrinkle.

But I certainly understand your point.

I am pro-baseline prestige, it makes the game harder and more unique. Im sure at least one person is going to say "No sh1t, you coach at Duke and UK", but I really enjoyed the climb to get there. It wasn't a simple path and that made a fun many year course to get there.

I totally get some why people dont like baseline prestige, but the game without baseline prestige exists. It's called D2 and D3. It's way easier to get to the top of D2 and D3 because there isnt baseline prestige.

IMO - what we should be banging the table to get rid of is other loopholes known by some but not all. The next patch should stop the sr redshirt and that all internationals accept redshirts. Im sure there are 1 or 2 others. I would also include that promises only exist for 80% of the REGULAR season as a freshman (I think should be regular and post season for all seasons), but that one probably is closer to the liking vs. not liking baseline prestige.

I used to agree with you and everything you mentioned regarding baseline prestige. But the more I thought about it, the big schools like Duke and North Carolina are always popular and will always be the top dogs so to speak. I do think they need to reevaluate who should be the high baseline schools, but I do think it should exist.

I mean in real life, even though VCU was doing so well in the tournament they were never going to be as popular as a Duke, Kansas, UCLA, etc.

Without looking at your profiles, I would bet my left nut that all of you are at high baseline prestige schools.

Not competing at D1, but it just seems logical to me that there is baseline prestige.

I have always hated baseline prestige. HD is not a simulator.

With that said, I understand its purpose.

Baseline is essential to HD longevity. Yes I’m at all high prestige schools. But I wasn’t always, and didn’t play D1 for like 5 years, real time. And still believed in baseline. I’m ok with baseline updates. But if I’m new coach and I’m viewing the game deciding if I wanna join, I wouldn’t even join if I saw an all Ivy/MAC/SunBelt E8 when I viewed the first bracket. It would remind of getting a new NBA PlayStation game, but turning it on to find out it’s all the G League players. It’s gotta APPEAR appealing to be or I’d never have gave it a chance. Working towards getting a power school is fun. Game advancement. We don’t have that if Rutgers and Akron are destination schools because a couple good coaches made them good. I want UK because I see them on tv and I wanna be like them (not really. But you know what I mean)

Love this community! but i would’ve never met a soul if baseline didn’t exist. But I’m happy to say at least this is a fair and debatable topic for all!!

I'm not crazy about baseline prestige, or EEs either, so the easy solution for me is just stay in D-2 or D-3. Problem solved!!!

I accept the argument.

My main issue is baseline prestige and conference membership being locked in from 2000.

It makes the entire game look dated and unkempt. I'm not sure what would turn me off more as a new player...seeing a MAC/Sunbelt finals or seeing 50-something schools in the wrong conference.

Id support an update to the baselines

I like the idea of updates to the baselines, but how do you do it? Does a coach that worked hard to get to Boston College wake up and get nuked one day? Does the guy that just took over a C- Baylor team blink and see B? Implementation is difficult. If they ever opened a new world, an update would be a no brainer.

I've been making this argument for years, but too many people find the idea of the big schools (UNC, Duke, whatever other major power) falling off a cliff. The idea that you can't build a team that becomes a legit power or that a current power can't fall off goes against the idea of HOOPS DYNASTY, but whatever.

I'd disagree on this point. It would make the teams that people want, more achievable since they aren't prebuilt (assuming that team has fallen on tough times). Firing logic would need to be significantly improved though. Baseline prestige should be dynamic over a 10-20 season period.
