16x16 - Best Draft Ever v33 (Waitlist) Topic

16 Players, 16 Seasons, Version 33
Seasons: 1920-1972
Salary Cap: $120 Million
DH = No
Division Alignment: Based on Salary of Nominated Player

Nominated Players: 8 Hitters and 7 Pitchers (16th player TBD)

This is a 16 team league. Each owner will nominate 1 player that has played 16+ seasons* during the years 1920-1972. Once all 16 players are announced, a draft order will be determined and each owner will draft a different season of each player nominated to be on their team. So all 16 teams will own the same 16 players, but each with a different version of that player. The other 9 rosters spots will be filled with teammates of the 15 drafted players.

* Note that if a player played 15 years, but played for 2 different teams in one season, that counts as 16 seasons (you'll understand why after reading the remaining rules ). To determine number of player seasons, choose Pos = ALL, Min Games = 0, Un-check "Include Secondary Positions", set Season Type = Full/Combined and set years 1920-1972. Both teams of a multi-team player can be drafted (but you must choose the partial or combined season). If you choose a the combined (higher salaried) version of a player during the draft, you can switch to the partial (lower salaried) version when you submit your roster. However, you cannot switch from lower salary to higher version. (The opposite would be true if the partial season is more expensive than the full season - it's rare but it's possible).

The 16 nominated players will include at least 8 hitters (including C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF x3) and at least 7 pitchers (any combination of SPs and RPs). For players who played more than one position, there will be some leeway on which position he qualifies at (i.e., Alex Rodriguez can be slotted into 3B or SS). I will pick my player last. I will decide if we need a 9th hitter or an 8th pitcher.

Upon signup, post your nominated player (and season) in the forum. I will choose my player last. Once all 16 players are chosen, I'll post the round 1 draft order and we can get started. We'll have a 15-round draft to select the other 15 seasons used for each player. The draft order for the first round will be based on *highest* salary of the nominated players. The draft order for rounds 2+ will be based on the lowest cumulative salary.
.

Here's where it gets fun
The remaining 9 roster spots must be filled with teammates of the drafted players (excluding the player you nominated). They must be from the same season. No Twisting. Nominated players cannot be used as teammates. If you draft a player season with 2+ teams, you choose which version of that season you want, and can only take teammates from that team. (This is how a player who played 15 years, but had a multi-team season can be allowed. Or similarly, a player who played 14 years, w/ two multi-team seasons is allowed, etc.). There is no limit on number of teammates per drafted player. Many drafted players will not have any teammates rostered. Some will have two or more. You may not use a teammate of your nominated player.

Quick Draft: 3-Hour Rule: Starting with round 3, if three hours elapse after the last made pick, the person who is due up may be skipped and the draft can continue as normal. The skipped person can jump in anytime to make his overdue pick. The 3-hour rule only is in effect during the hours of 9 AM to 11 pm EST. So let's assume person A makes a pick at 8:30 pm EST and person B is due up. No other picks made that evening. Person C wakes up and sees no pick has been made by person B. The three-hour rule would take effect at 9:30 am (2.5 hours the night before + 0.5 hours in the morning). Person C can skip person B and make his pick. Person D can make his pick, Person E can make his pick, etc.

The point of this rule is that folks should make a point in checking in often or else leave a proxy with somebody. Drafts are more fun when things are moving. Nothing sucks the fun out of a draft more than being on-deck and hitting refresh continuously for 5-6 hours while waiting for the person in front of you to make a selection. If this is going to be a problem, then please don't sign up.

This version will be first-come, first-serve.

I was 60 seconds late and 3 of my top choices were already gone. At least I was on the right track maybe?

Well, at least he's most likely picking last in round 1.
