Baseball History Progressive ---> <--- Regressive Draft

Play 1 Season, or play all 5.
As long as we have 12 interested owners over 5 seasons, admin will kick in $50. If for some reason we don't Keep 12 of the 24 owners through all 5 Seasons, I'll kick in an extra $50 out of pocket to cover the prize money.

The idea is to cover all of Baseball History in a Progressive / Regressive format, with up to 3 Keepers going forward (or backwards) into the next Season. $100 to the guy with the most wins after 5 seasons, $25 to the runner up. Teams not going onto the next season will be offered up to new owners to decide who they want to Keep or cut going into the next Progressive --> <-- Regressive season. There should be enough new draftable talent each season for a new owner to draft a good team.

So you never play 51-59? Oh well, I guess I'll do it.

And should the old part of season one read 1885-1899?

* Oversights on my part, dahsdebater, lol. Thanks for bringing them to my attention. Long day & I had hastily thrown up the dates. I have edited both year spans to include ALL of the sim database, lol.

Thanks for signing up, josh, soxyanks, and dahsdebater ! I think it'll be fun and have its strategy in drafting for now and future seasons.

Should you make 5th season 30-39 and 60-69 and a 6th season with 40-49 and 50-59?
7/2/2009 10:41 AM
OK, I have a couple of free teams from the Iron Horse, I am in. No to DH.

Missed the note on DH vote: Please God No!

toddleduc,
How about this setup to avoid having four seasons of 20-year spans and a fifth of 40 years? Also, even as slow as leagues are filling, I would hope this takes off before the 2009 players are available, so in this suggestion I reversed the order to make the 2000-2009 season last, not first.

1. 1946-1960 and 1961-1969
2. 1931-1945 and 1970-1979
3. 1916-1930 and 1980-1989
4. 1901-1915 and 1990-1999
5. 1885-1900 and 2000-2009

I had originally planned on something like that, but the 40-59 player pool would be smaller, and I guess I was trying to wrap it up in a neat tidy 5-Season League.

Josh, I see your point about using guys from 2009... I guess I just liked the Progressive -> <- Regressive perspective. I'm going into season 17 (1-year at a time starting from 1901/2005) of a Progressive -> <- Regressive and it's been a lot of fun.

Baseball History Tour starting with the first seasons of "recorded SIM ball" and starting with the present day. Meet in the middle for the last 4 decades. As we've found out from your Leagues, the 1930's and 1940's aren't the most exciting decades, lol. At least not from my perspective. :-)) Might as well throw the 50's in there and let some 60's pitchers and a handful of 30's - 50's pitchers try and get 'em all out.

* It does take 24 owners to make a good League work, so I am open to suggestions/tweaks, ect. If there is any owner dropout-- We can give the new owner either (A) the previous owner(s) win total or (B) the average of wins per date of the 24 teams.

I'd hope that the fun of competing in each new Era(s), the large player pools, and still the chance of going to the playoffs each season or buliding for a 2nd Season run will be draw enough. Hopefully we get a good 20 or so that want to play a full 5 Seasons, but as long as we have 12, WIS will throw in their $50 and I'll put up the other $75 from my free teams and $10 from my beer fund, lol...

Thanks for playing tajohn. Let me know if this sounds like something you'd be interested in Conan. No rush... probably take a month or more to fill...
