You can sign players to 1 year contracts towards the tail end of the FA signing period. But once spring training starts, most players won't accept less than 2 years.

It mildly peeves me due to the lack of sensibility.

Sign them using a team or mutual option. Even a player option should do the trick since most of them believe they can do better on the open market next season.

But in general, a lot of things about FA don't make a ton of sense in a realistic sense or from a gameplay perspective.

Umm, yeah, i'm familiar with mutual options.

But if I want to sign a 37 yr old long B, i prefer to not run the risk of buying him out for 500K the following season.

i haven't noticed this at all...in fact the longer they go unsigned the less money they demand and often start dropping years...also i've had success offering them 1 year deals even when they ask for 2 (provided you offer what they are asking for in yearly salary)

So the problem is the game doesn't do what you want? Small world, I want to win 80% of my games and it doesn't do that, either. I'm 2 games out in my division. I probably need to send in a ticket.

There does seem to be a price range between 1-2 mill where they force 2 years on you. I did notice it for one guy this last time through.
9/22/2009 7:48 PM
that's because most guys are in the 1-2 mill range when ST comes about. i'm looking at like 10 different guys who are asking for 2 years a few games into ST.

also, i would prefer if alias trolls refrained from posting here.

Johnny Cochran is awesome.

I just clicked on 15 players in Morgan world, which has started spring training, and not a single player wanted a 2-year deal. In fact, once the free agent period has ended, I can't recall ever having seen a player ask for a 2-year deal and when I've offered, they have always declined saying they wanted a 1-year deal to showcase their talents.

I am having the same trouble as deanod. I have a feeling we are talking about the same pitchers in the same world. It's really irritating, and I agree with everything he has posted thus far.

The world I play in is currently in spring training. I can't find a single player asking for more than 1 season.

i guess regulars world has a bug. i sent a ticket.
9/23/2009 2:47 PM
did you offer them less than what they were asking for before free agency ended?...i ask because this seems to have the effect of slowing down how quickly they drop their demands
9/23/2009 3:12 PM
no, i'm looking at 10+ guys.
