Today's the last day of recruiting in Knight.

I currently have a D2 team with good prestige. Yesterday, there was not a single ranked recruit that dropped to me. Today there are three -- and all three are 2 year JUCO players (#117 SG, #141 PF, #169 C).

I've normally found that about half of the #150 - #200 players are receptive to playing D2 ball. And for small forwards you can go into the low 100's and occasionally can for other positions too.

This time around for recruiting I made 16 phone calls to players that seemed like reasonable dropdown candidates. None would take my phone call. That struck me as really odd but I had it chalked up as a fluke.

But when I look now and see that no 3 or 4 year player has dropped on the last day, it wasn't a fluke that my calls got rejected.

Not every ranked player is rejecting D2. I didn't check every D2 team but I think I checked every A+ team and I clicked and looked at a few others. I found four examples of ranked players that have signed with D2 schools. Two of the four are from A+ programs and it is possible that those were dropdowns. The other two signed with schools that have prestige worse than mine so they must be pulldowns.

It seems very, very odd that almost all of the D2 A+ teams signed recruiting classes that didn't include any ranked players. And that the two that did get a ranked player ended up signing just the single recruit.

Thoughts? Is this happening elsewhere?

I personally think dropdowns are really stupid and make DII recruiting a snoozefest, so this is a good thing if intentional.

On the other hand, it could just be that the sim teams whiffed more than usual on their recruiting targets this season so went deeper into the recruiting pool.

I've had seasons where the SIM teams got every player on my 'wish list'. In other seasons, they only signed a few.

this did not happen in phalen, with a A- prestige, I saw approx 50 ranked guys the last day and a half or so, until they weeded themselves out at the end.

only really could be three things, a glitch, an unannounced change, or something related to how d1 recruiting went (which seems somewhat unlikely?)

I've seen this more often recently (in Tark). Even when guys drop, it seems like the session they drop, a DI SIM signs onto them so they might as well not have even dropped.

Maybe it's time to start recruiting actual DII players (particuarly post players)?

fyi; if a D1 sim latches onto a recruit after the initial signings began, a D2 team still has a decent chance of stealing that recruit (assuming the recruit has dropped to the D2 search screen).

KU...Concord, in my conference, signed 2 ranked players with an A prestige.

I saw a pretty significant difference this season with recruiting when compared to last season. Last season I had much better talent available to me and my prestige hasn't changed. Assume something was tweaked but who knows. Last season with a B prestige I was able to get a couple ranked players to consider and even signed one or two I believe. This season I don't even get consideration from ranked players and even non-ranked high end D2 recruits are turning me down.

Well after the 5:00 pm cycle, there is one additional recruit that has dropped down to me. He's the #167 ranked center. Not by chance (in my opinion), he's a two year JUCO player.

There are five additional two year JUCO players that are ranked, are not considering anybody and still have not dropped down.

There is 1 JUCO player with three years that hasn't dropped. And there are 86 high school players who are ranked and are not considering anybody. At this point I don't think any are going to drop.

I've also received word from the two A+ teams that those players signed were pulldowns. And to respond to abitaamber's note I'm at A prestige and I'm not seeing Concord's recruits on my D2 screen so I assume that they must also be pulldowns.

Dropdowns for ranked players seem to be nonexistent. And while some are receptive to being pulled down, it's dramatically less than in seasons past.

I'm not arguing that this is a bad thing. But it really seems different than what has happened elsewhere.

Concord is my team.....1 of the ranked recruits was in fact a pulldown....the other was an ineligible I recruited last season, and decided to go Juco....all it took was a phone call and an HV this recruiting season to pull him in thanks to all the work I did last recruiting season....

I kind of felt the same way in Crum recruiting that ended on Monday...I have a B+ prestige but have been able to get ranked recruits in past seasons...this year they did not return my calls...and the quality of the players that dropped was less than stellar.

That was my experience in Crum as well. I have an A prestige, didn't sign anty ranked players and ended up with the #6 recrutiing class. That having been said, I was pretty happy with my class. I find that often unranked players suit my needs better than ranked players.

In DII, I tend to have most of my guys wrapped up by the second day of recruiting, so I don't tend to pay much attention after that point, but during the past few recruiting sessions it seems like the DI SIMs are going after their secondary targets earlier in the process than I remember, which might explain some of the observations in this thread.

kujayhawk, are the ranked players your're referring to undecided and just not becoming available to you or were they unavailable because they were considering or signed by DI SIMs?

In Crum D-II for me, I signed two drops.

No recruit better than 180 would take a call, and some unranked players were better than the ones who did. The guy I targeted as the best available PG dropped on the 3rd cycle, day 1, amazingly. I was shocked.

Another higher prestige school got the SG I was after on day 2, but my 2nd choice dropped late on day 2, though I had to battle cross-country for him.

I thought it was an atypical recruiting period. I am used to waiting quite a bit longer to sign the drop-downs.
