Thats what happens when year in year out UNC gets to hand pick their recruits with no one in conference OR from the other Big 6 schools standing up to them...a virtual super team is created.

Why dont you do it then? Be our savior?

Its not as easy as you think.

I recruited in Knight this past recruiting for a friend.

Lets just say I took on LM2 and UNC.

I spent about 35K more give or take and lost... I thought I did a great job recruiting..

B+ to A+ and 90 mile disadvantage for me.

I believe Kansas tried 2 seasons ago with Sleshinger, the #1 PF and I think #1 overall. He was in Nebraska. Kansas had an A- prestige and I think 1 less scholarship. UNC took him, all while signing all other top players without any known challenge. It was surprising to see, with no ACC team taking the shot at a possibly overextended lostmyth2. Is his prowess a myth? No clue. He does not share his techniques, that I know of. His recruiting success is the most impressive currently that I know of, certainly that I have ever seen. Maybe the best ever. But I'm not a veteran of all worlds and eras.

Unless a guy like that is tight on schollies, it's going to take more than one battle to drag him down. It sounds like the other coaches in the area are scared of battling him (and I'm not necessarily saying I disagree, lol).

And there is the problem--coaches trying to build programs cannot afford to have a disastrous recruiting period and are (and should be) reluctant to risk that disaster which would set them back a couple of seasons.

I've gone all in and lost and won. Not sure if the win was worth the loss. Probably better to have two solid-not-spectacular recruiting periods than one great and one lousy.

Great solution Indian...makes absolute sense...why dont I try it when Im nowhere near them...Of course it can be done...Look at Naismith and take a look at what the Big West has done to the Pac 10 over the season...YES, the Big West...its a group of experienced coaches that didnt want to just be a third tier conference...those coaches, with less money...annualy battle it out with the PAC schools (who are all the same distance from recruits)...Obviously you have to pick your battles and you wont win them all...but if you are willing to take one or two walk ons and other teams catch onto what youre doing and jump in as well it simply wont allow the A and A+ prestige schools to draft their team...If the other top programs have no problem with allowing UNC to be the favorite year in year out so be it...I was just making a point...people have to be aware of whats going on in recruiting and if they didnt simply allow teams in general to handpick players...you wouldnt see a team littered with FR and Sos that is 800+ and giving up 2 point second halfs...

And if you wonder whether I do it...just ask my conference mates in Tark ACC about my willingness to battle for recruits...Ask Brock and Moy about how I built up the Fullerton program in Naismith...jeez look no further than our own conference where Ive consistantly battled with UConn and the Cuse at the peril of my own team...if other coaches got more creative theyd actually see improvements in their team or at the very least give themselves a chance as opposed to never making any noise.

Also, had other teams taken notice of your battle above and jumped on some top tier guys Im sure he was targeting...he may have signed some of the players but not all...after time it takes its toll and people stop targeting all the top players because they know battles are coming.

Oh, and I wasnt patting myself on the back...just dont call me out when the evidence is completely contrary to your point.

One more thing to add about the Big West example above...what helps the situation is the Pac 10 --- They all battle each other and our conference as well for recruits because they have been with no other option...its basically one big free for all as recruiting should be...In Phelan (Im not in Knight so I wont comment)...It starts and ends with conference mates...Until Wake, Duke, Clemson, G Tech and the others decide to start taking a stand why should other conferences...So I get that part...but the entire situation is ridiculous...

I would love to see a few people take a chance, but there is no point in starting an A+'s only battle, it's suicide and I am not willing to battle an A+ just to battle an A+, I don't really feel like throwing recruiting monies down the drain.

mmt, maybe "ridiculous" is overstated (but maybe not). However, I tend to agree with you. Don't get me wrong. I'm not sitting there in the ACC, with LM2 hanging over my head. But what really strikes me as odd is that every year since LM2 has been at UNC (and maybe even when he was at Coastal Carolina), he gets on recruits and NEVER has competition, not even from the beginning. It seems not as if other teams go after the same recruits, then drop off out once they see LM2 on the target. Rather, it seems as if they somehow know which recruits to avoid from the start, as if they collectively reason, "ok, that #3 PF in NC, I'm sure LM2 will want him, so I won't bother. And the #2 SF in SC, ditto. Same for the #1 PG in TN. Ok, what's ?" Sure enough, LM2 goes after the 3 players in the first cycle, and is never knowingly challenged. Believe me, I'm not judging, and I would love to develop that kind of respect from rivals. But in my experience, even in the few seasons (I think maybe 2 total) I've gotten A+ in DI, there is almost always someone who jumps on one of my targets, and I have to battle. Heck, even last year in Phelan, with an A prestige and $82k with only 2 openings (the PAC 10 won $33.5k and I carried over $21k), a B+ with about $15k less and 4 openings (at the same distance), made me spend all but $12k to sign the #4 SF. He jumped on the SF AFTER he saw my team on him in the first round. Contrast this with LM2 (mind you, I'm not trying to equate my own skills with his, which is a joke), who never (that I can remember) sees anyone on his area recruits. Maybe the B+ school should move east. ;)

Boosters

I suppose it's possible, zhurdlez. But LM2 has never even been investigated, that I know. I can't think of why he would even need to try them. No other teams are ever on his area recruits. But I've never experimented with gifts, and I don't know how they work (or not), or what gets investigated (or not). My gut tells me LM2 is completely clean, simply a great recruiter given (so far) ultimate respect by his nearby rivals.

;-) no questioning his greatness but yes boosters are what I believe he uses. just my opinion but they can be used effectivly if you know what you are doing
