Double teaming a shooting guard: Topic

When double teaming a shooting guard is it a good assumption that the PG will be part of double teaming the other teams SG?
Or does the SF help with the double team on the SG sometimes? The other (sim ai) team can only beat me if there SG (18 points a game) or their SF (12 points a game) have huge games.
My SG is good enough to defend most other SG's one on one (I play Half Court press/man) but my SG is my most important offensive player as well. My SF is a decent defender.

Don't do the double team? I guess the 57 passing rating means he would just pass to the open man most of the time.

Ive never had success with a dbl team. From what I have experienced dbl teams do little to slow a player and often lead to other players having better games. Felix the sf is a bench player on any nt team he is way to slow to matter so dont worry about him. The sg isnt that great either but better then the rest. All your guards are really slow also. In the futre try to get more speed in your guards. Mayb someone who dbl's will chime in but I wouldnt do it

with that b prestige you should be able to get players that fit the press better. Ath bigs spd guards

I think of it this way, jb. An effective scorer in the post is much more consistently dangerous, and typically has less ability (SPD, BH, PA) to counter a DT, whereas a scoring guard is typically more able to counter, especially when he has good IQ. I like to DT when post players are scorers, and also lack PA, SPD and BH (and IQ hopefully). It's rare to find a scoring guard with similar deficiencies, but if you come across one, a DT just might work.

Ok. Thanks.

The press constantly tries and double (trap) everyone all the time in the half court set? Seems to me virtually every dominant coach/dynasty are pressing teams.

DT clearly works with the press, but why not with the man or zone given the same skill set and oh yeah stamina? At the point of constant chasing, trapping, stumbling and bumbling, wouldn't all defenses look about the same if multiple double teams and traps were enacted? Wouldn't all defenses rotate about the same if there were constantly trapping and double teaming? Isn't a trapping defense going to either be a zone or man defense? Mostly some sort of zone imho.

Has anyone tried double teaming lately? I play M2M but haven't tried it in a long time. I wonder if the soon to arrive (maybe) new engine will change it. It used to suck.

Excellent points, Rails. It would seem HD would do well to not only incorporate fastbreak tendencies within the other offenses, but also to incorporate press tendencies within man or zone.

I used to the double team pretty effectively in a game last season in Phelan. I don't double team much, but I think the results when I have done it have been pretty desireable.

The double team didnt work for me last night. I double teamed my opponents on fire pg he got off 36 points on my double team in a 17 point minor upset win.

Yeah, the press kind of came about last year when I had 5 seniors who had basically maxed out on everything and with my stamina at the time I just put extra minutes into the press as a change of pace. With my depth last year it worked fairly well but may not be as good a fit for this years team.
Once I get the IQ's of the Freshmen all into the C+ and B range with the press I think it will be a factor later in the year in my favor though.

In my experience, double-teams work very well with a zone defense.

I've had much less success using them with M2M however.

Really the double team didn't work? Just because he scored a lot doesn't mean it wasn't effective. He took 38 shots and scored 36 points, he went 15-38 which is 39.4%, which is horrible.

I think the problem when people look at the effectiveness of double teams is that they only look at points and not how they got those points. Presumably when a team doubles they aren't doubling the player the entire time he is on the court. It's more of a help double and sometimes it's late and sometimes it's going to be impossible to double because of spacing. Generally when people do double they are doubling guys who take a ton of shots. Regardless of what happens somebody who takes 20+ shots is going to score a lot of points. Just because you are doubling it doesn't mean that player is going to shoot 4-23 everytime. Guys like Kobe, LeBron and Dwyane Wade face double teams every night and it's not like they get shut down. The only way double teams totally shut somebody down is if they are done the way that team doubled Stephen Curry, where they actually doubled him the entire time he was on the court, instead of a help double.
