The Sky Is Falling II:The Sky Falls Again Topic

It's been about a year since the "sky fell" and looks like we are going to have the same problem again. As many open worlds as there are right now, there are another 22 opening up within the next 7 days.

What worlds have been merged? And what's the plan now?

Let them die a painless death.

Dr. Jack has a plan.

thats probably not the best way to look at it. some of these worlds have been around for a long time and are very solid. are you proposing that these worlds be shut down?

I agree in the fact that I think that this problem needs a little bit more of an aggressive solution, but the fact that right now the commissioners (where appropriate) literally have to fight to get owners is annoying.

It's a supply/demand problem. We've been through this before. The first attempted solution was promo-codes and free seasons. That didn't work, it just deferred the problem for three months. The second solution was world contraction. That worked better.

If you have a better option, please post it here.

What would you propose? You can't make people buy teams. Giveaways have proven not to work.

It's a supply/demand issue. There is way too much supply. I'd suggest make getting a team an event. Something to look forward to. And, if you're in a good world, you'll stick with your team even when it's in decline. Right now there are too many owners who burn up a team, dump it and move on. Why? Because they can pick from 30 worlds, 200 teams.

Dammit. My long-winded response gave tec time to make an uncharacteristic short reply.

I really would be interested to hear from WIS about this. The promo codes and free seasons are a good band-aid, but this problem is going to continue until something more significant changes.

Seriously, how many worlds have actually been contracted?
9/28/2009 10:49 PM
I believe 4 worlds have been contracted into 2 worlds? Maybe 6 into 3. Pretty sure no more than that.

And the bad news is that baseball season is coming to an end. Interest in HBD will wane even further.

They should give a public world 2 weeks to fill if they dont do it close the world down and let the guys who were in the world find a new already existing world (private or public) to join.

Give all those owners their season they alreayd purchased back and like a 5 buck credit or something and be done with it.

WIS could start by contracting the weakest leagues, two at a time, and see if the remaining leagues fill in a reasonable amount of time. ("Weakest" = most openings and length of time world has not rolled.)

At some point, the supply and demand will equal out. Or owners will grow tired of waiting for their worlds to roll, and move over to worlds that are closer to rolling -- which would lead to an owner-driven contraction.

If I was in one of those worlds, and they eliminated a team that I'd been molding for 14 seasons now, you can be DAMNED sure I'd drop this game like a hot potato. Whats the point of spending money on this game and building a franchise to your liking if WIS is just going to come along and delete it?

That would be a terrible business model. They'd alienate a huge portion of their users.

Maybe they should have joined a better world?

Maybe it was a good world when they joined, and has since been ruined certain HBD personalities who are known to join and destroy worlds? Why should the long-term, responsible owner then be penalized?

Like I said.. if they took a team away from me that I'd been shaping for 14 seasons, I'd be gone IMMEDIATELY, and I'm guessing that holds true for many, MANY other HBD owners.
