I've asked about them a few times, but nobody could tell me what they do.

I look at a high bunting rating to mean "proficient at bunting". That's plain enough.

Temper-- most position players that lead their worlds in HBP have very low temper. High temper leads to frequent ejections.

Bunt-- Earl Weaver once said, "Why don't you take the sacrifice bunt and shove it up someone's *** where it belongs?" I agree, and I don't pay attention, and I set the manager's bunt setting bunt to "1."

Push/Pull-- I play in symmetric parks, but I can imagine that this would matter if you were playing in Fenway or some such thing. High equals pull, I'm pretty sure.

Argumentative-- I think, without being sure, that you can look for other things in a bench coach besides strategy if you use a low setting. Would love to hear other opinions on this.

And don't forget that player height affects his ability to draw the walk.

I play in Honolulu, so I pay attention to push/pull.

In theory, that means RHs with 50 or less push/pull, and ies with 50 or greater push/pull. But I've found that to maximize this, it helps to have above-average contact, splits and batting eye.

In other words, two RH hitters who have ratings of, say, 50/98/55/55/40 will do about the same in Honolulu, even if one has a 75 push/pull and the other has a 25. But if the two RH players have ratings of roughly 85/55/70/70/70, the pull rating makes a bigger difference.

As for bunting skill -- I prefer that my speedy, high contact guys also have high bunting ratings. Just seems to make sense.

There was a time during the season where I thought I was walking too many batters. So I upped my argumentative setting to 5. The next game my manager got tossed for arguing after a walk.

I don't think that it actually had any effect, other than making me feel better. I just found it odd that he would argue what I was actually ****** about.

Thats pretty funny actually, I guess when I get frustrated with one of my teams I just need to have the manager argue more.

Bunt is for pitching. I'd rather have my pitcher bunt than swing for the fences.

Wrong.

0 = dead pull hitter.

FTFY

I never look at any of those ratings and doubt i will ever start to.

My team was doing crappy so I actually looked at push/pull a couple of weeks ago. But I don't play in an asymmetric park so it's not going to be a big consideration.

I suppose if you (a) played in a pitchers ballpark and (b) specifically built your team around pitching and defense, you might take a "small-ball" approach to your offense in terms of generating runs.

If you (c) micro-managed your lineup construction, the bunt rating might take on a little more importance.

Unless all of those three things are true, then ignoring the bunt rating is OK.
