In season recruiting... Topic

One thing I would love to see added to HD is the ability to recruit during the season. Maybe if they only give you a small portion of the money. For example, I'm in a conference that places 5 teams in the post season, all the money I get from my conference's success, I get to use during the season. I like the fact that recruits are generated at the beginning of every season, but having no chance to do anything besides add them to my watch list is truly annoying. What does everybody else think about this?

This has been brought up many times before and it's not going to happen. We can't even get recruiting efforts to start earlier in the day the day recruiting starts.

Do they have a reason for not even considering it? I mean, they continuously claim to be as realistic as possible, it shouldn't be too difficult of a task to add in season recruiting.

Yeah it would be. Plus many coaches think it would make the game too much of a time requirement.

One reason given is that it wouldn't be fair to a new coach at a school. I'd hate to be a new coach and find out that all the best recruits are already considering other schools.

It'd be nice if you'd be able to scout in season. I'm not a big fan of having a day and a half to search for guys to recruit.

At D1 you could have the recruits attached to a coach not a school. So if you move your recruits considering follow also.

but the coaches taking over their first DI school would be at another disadvatage

Completely understand. I love the theory of it but I have yet to think of a good way this could be implimented.

But then to gain any value from that you would have to stay in the same general level of school and the same general region.

C'mon everyone I threw out an idea, as I already stated I have yet to think of a good way this could be implimented I know it has MANY flaws.

One way I could see introducing in season recruiting would be if they developed HS/All-star tournaments. They have 3-4 events and have a mix of 2-5 star recruits at each event. You can pay a fee to scout one 'event' and get a report on the event, with a line or two on each recruit there.

I would also say that this would stay in the school's inbox. For example, I am the coach at Penn and I scout an event. If I leave for NC State, the next coach at Penn should be able to see this report (and I should be able to see a report if NC State attended an event). I also think that the player thoughts emails and recruiting evals should be available too - the assistant coach would have a file with these reports he gives to the head coach, it doesn't make sense that it vanishes.

I suppose it would add something to do besides tracking but I have several concerns with it. First, the coach should be required to have a season remaining to early recruit. Then once the coach uses his first recruiting tool (phone call, letter, HV, whatever) he should be locked out of promotion or transfer after the season. Also, he should be locked out of transferring the season to another team.

The reason for these restrictions is to prevent a coach from spending his replacements money on players the new coach may not be interested in. Plus, some coaches would potentially spend all available money on trash players and then drop the team. Neither situation is good for the game.

Early recruiting would be a risk/reward situation because due to broken promises, transfers due to lack of playing time, or early entry into the draft you can't always be sure which players will return the following season. With early recruiting, a coach may think he wants a PG and spends all available cash on one. Then when he unexpectedly loses a SF or PF/C he may be short of cash to fill that greater need. In addition, there is no guarantee that a sim school won't jump on the early entry prospect and set up a real dilemma for the coach.

These are my thoughts on this subject. I know a lot of coaches are in favor of this idea but I am not convinced that it will add anything that can't be accomplished during normal recruiting.

I completely agree, it would be a disadvantage to the new coaches, but that's why you don't get your full balance. If you only get a scholarship worth of money, etc. I would also like to see recruits as soon as they hit high school. Maybe take out the in-season idea but add high school, that way you can start following kids from their freshman year in h.s. till they graduate...I don't know, just a thought.

Seble told me that even adding HS Juniors to the database would be too hard and that he isn't interested in doing it.
