Early Entree Logic Topic

So, it appears that EE is heavily related to post-season success. In Tark, I went to the PIT Championship and lost two players to EE. My question is this: if I had not made the PIT, so no postseason, would I still have lost those two guys early. Is there anyway to know? Has anyone figured out the programming behind EE?

There is no way to know for sure. You have to assume if you recruit great players, they may leave early.

I understand that getting great players means they may leave early. However, I just wish there was some formula or logic to how it worked. I mean, there are a lot of great players that dont leave early. I'm just curious.

sully, I do think there is a formula, but it takes into account some %'s leading to probablility, based on the psych eval (i.e. it is not a sure thing that a guy will leave if he is self centered, just raises the odds.

I also think the formula is by position, everyonce in a while you will see a pretty bad (in terms of guard ratings) PG leave, while dozens of better SG's stay. this is also why sometimes one position on one team gets raped, if you recall, I lost 3 junior PF's from my UConn team a few years back, two of whom averaged less than 5 pts and shot less than 40% from the floor.

I once retained a 1050 SF junior, from a team that won a PIT, in the tourny, I was not even thinking he would stay, so I gave him 100% distro in several of the games, just to see what he would do - then he stayed, so I would not think that advancing far in the PIT has an extreme effect on going early.

I do think making the final 4 NT does, but so does high ratings vs others at one's position.

we all used to not play guys to try and keep them, it almost seems like that has backfired as much as worked as of late - not sure what others think of that comment, or any of the other ones for that matter -

all highly speculative at this point, although a coach did some analysis work on this at one point, can't remember who he was, he might read this and chime in

I have high hopes for the recruit-generation engine rewrite. Specifically, I hope it will create far fewer stars (with multiple very high ratings), and that those stars will be consistent achievers (15-20+ PPG on 50+% shooting, 3+ blocks per game in the post, 8-10+ Reb per game, etc.) so that when they do leave early, coaches won't feel like they didn't get their moneys' worth while the stars were on the team. Contrast to what we have now, with many, many players who by their ratings should be all-world, yet perform not appreciably better than others (since they go up against similar players on a regular basis), then leave after an underwhelming junior campaign. :)

I agree with ya jsk and I really hope we are right...

I agree jsk and zhawks. I've kinda noticed that there are not as many top recruits in the last couple of cycles. Maybe its just me and where I'm looking but it seems that there are not as many studs anymore.

sully, anything is possible, but it's very uncommon for players to leave early from teams that don't make the postseason.

the best choices are a sensible meal to start your day, perhaps oatmeal and a fruit. you want to avoid a high fat meat product as the main form of protein for your early entree.

You know, blaank, until you posted, I didn't even notice the mispelling, and it still took me a while to figure out what the heck you were talking about. You: nice post. Me: slow on the uptake.

My apologies.

"logic" is misplaced in the title of this thread....

well actually my big gripe is that there is no way we can assess players likely chances of leaving - tons and tons of players are labelled in evals as likely to leave

the process would make more sense if those statements were made about fewer players and really meant something

fd, I had a conversation with seble and he admits there are ways to improve the process, it's just not something they're focusing on right now. But it's probably my least favorite part about DI right now.

Yeah dalt i asked him a few questions about it also. My thought was incorporating conference prestige into the equastion IE the lower your conference prestige the less likely you'd be to lose a guy. Kind of simulating a players exposure.
