Since WIS won't answer my ticket as to how this guy thought he was good enough to leave early I figured I would post it. I am not upset with him leaving, yeah i would have liked to have had him around another year but I didn't even think this kid was good enough to get drafted, let alone leave early.

I was expecting to lose my other Big man Cooks, who stayed and I can't understand how this guy was 'rated' good enough by the EE selection engine to justify leaving early. 70 rebounding is very low for a Big Man, isn't it?

Again I am not upset at all. But I can't understand how my guys is even close to these others.

didn't you just win the champioinship? That's why your guys are leaving early.

I completely understand kelby I am not upset about him leaving. When I sent in a ticket asking about if his ratings really were good enough for him to leave (He was the 3rd best big man on my roster) and supplied them with a handful of guys who had not only better ratings but stats I was told "Stats are not a big factor in EE's (which I already know...) Ratings play by far the biggest factor (I still believe that postseason success is #1 but...)" When I responded asking the CS rep if my guy was really rated close to these other guys he more or less said yes.

I guess I just didn't think a kid with 70 rebound as being "NBA ready". But that is fine with me that he , I'd much rather have Cooks for another year anyhow.

i had a similar thing happen.

although the kid who early for me did have promise, he was a freshman! and he was a backup to the starting SF who was faster, more athletic, better rebounder, better shooter, etc.

the starter (who stayed and will be a senior next season) was our leading scorer, allconf honmen, etc.

seemed very strange the frosh would leave. i can only surmise that there is some type of formula that decides which players will leave early. but, whereas I used to think that the formula was tallied up and any who scored over 200 (for example) would go pro, it now seems to me that after each season all players are rated on some variety of factors and THEN, they are assigned some percent chance of leaving.

So, In my example above.. it might be that my senior SF had a 74% chance of going EE. whereas my freshman might have had a really low chance, for instance 14%.

kinda like theNBA lottery. my frosh might get 14 balls in the hopper and my SF74 balls. and then they select 25 balls or whatever and, although my frosh seems like an illogical choice over the senior, he happens to get picked.

maybe?

His rebounding is his only rating that isn't off the charts. Everything else is fantastic. If I was in your situation I would think there is about a 50/50 shot of him leaving early. He is a 875 overall rated Jr coming off a championship.
11/9/2009 11:19 AM
but, kel, the question is ... why didnt the others go?

Fair enough. That was more or less what I was wondering about. I was under the assumption that his REB would hold him back, it's what held him back from me starting him.

maybe their team sucked? I don't want to defend the early entry process because it is terrible but that guy leaving early is normal. There are a lot bigger head scratchers than that one.
11/9/2009 11:25 AM
there are about 100 - 200 EE candidates, the top 60 do not seem to go, there seems to be a certain amount of probability - if you think cs is telling the truth, then psych evals have a fair amount to do with it, the best 2 players I have ever coached, both stayed for their senior seasons, a 1050 sf and a near perfect 960 SG, overall, I have lost my share, but I am glad it is not as cookie cutter as it might be

All the other guys were from NT teams. I want to say they all made at least the Sweet 16.

OR I agree I like a bit of probability but at the same time there has to be a rhyme or a reason to it and simply put right now the EE process doesn't have that.

lol... No one of them was. All these guys played in the NT, most (if not all) in the Sweet 16.
