speed vs athlete in SF Topic

if given the choice of speed or ath in a sf, which would you take? I will give 3 d3 players, lets assume identical in every way except:

a = 60 ath / 30 sp

b = 45 ath / 45 sp

c = 30 ath / 60 sp

curious if anyone willing to share an opinion - seems like we have more new players posting as of late, this might help one or two of them.

It depends on the potential in each?

OR I would go with c and it really isn't close imo.

Lets go with medium in every category / every player, just to stay moving forward!

If thats the way they are maxed it does matter! I choose D none of the above unless they have room for improvement.

why c
The Speed advantage the player is going to have over the rest of the sf's at that level. I think a kid that will hit about 70 spd 40 ath is going to be much more of a scorer and also a better defender then a kid that is either pretty slow (a) or 55 in each (b). I have always tried to recruit my small forwards as a 3rd guard and I think with that additional speed his ability to play D of all things is going to be very useful.

in the triangle set, I've definitely noticed speed is most important. Helps the perimiter shooting.

The speed also helps out a lot when you go against a FCP team, regardless of your own sets.

If I were likely to have 2 low post scoring options on the court at the same time for significant portions of the game, or if I ran FB or triangle, I think I'd tend to go with higher SPD. Otherwise, I think I'd go with higher ATH (running flex or motion, with 1 or 0 good LP scoring options at PF and C).

depends on which is higher, his low post or perimeter

And to Z's point, I'd figure defense we played in the decision. If playing press or zone, I'd need that SPD more. If playing man, ATH might be needed as much or more. If my off and def needs were counter-balanced, I might opt for the 45/45 balance.
