I enjoyed reading about P vs BH......so I thought I would add this also. Which is more important at the pg, sg & sf. A or SPD?

Of two minds about it. While I want high speed, I am almost to the point of seeing ATH as very close in importance. High ATH seems to get me Free throws, if combined with even a halfway decent Rebounding at Guard, a guard can dominate at rebounding.

I always like Speed in my SF than ATH because I like to play a pressing defense, also I like PER in SF so he would kind of like being a 3rd guard type player. SPD over ATH obviously in PG and SG

ATH over SPD but its not like an either or situation. I want them both regardless of position.

Yeah, and I like ath in my SF because I usually like to have good rebounders at that spot (and I don't run press).

It totally depends, in my opinion. Although, I think spd>ath for guards.

I am almost agnostic about it with Shooting guards, provided they meet a reasonable minimum on speed. I won't reject a shooting guard candidate with a fiftyish ;otential speed that could end up with,s ay, a good BH, per and a really high ATH.

I always think spd if you want your guy shooting from the outside, ath if you want him to drive. Then again, my offense always tends to underperform...

Agreed. But it really depends on position. In a pg I am fine if he has lower ATH, but I won't give up anything in terms of speed.

for gaurds, i definitely valiue speed more, it is really essential.

for gaurds i view hiATH as the thing that can make a good player great.

for my d1 team, i really wont recurit a kid to play pg or sg unless i think his sp will eventually be 95+. of course, that is a FBoffense, but i think i would tend to value speed anyways.

for sf, i really want both, but i think if push comes to shove, i value ath more... even with my FB team. not sure if that is right, but i dunno, i just feel like a SF should be really athltic.

ive allways kinda wonderd if, with the fbpress scheme maybe i should value speed over ath at all positions... but in the end i have stuck with my theory that ath is more important in SF and bigs

ole d I think that ATH is more important in bigs, mostly because it is often overlooked in terms of its rebounding importance. That said you can't overlook speed at any position because all off the great teams have good speed across the board and it is very tough to beat them if they have it and you don't.
12/20/2009 10:10 PM
i dont think anyone is overlooking speed, zee, but threads like this , i think, are meant to stir debate about which things are most important when you cant have it all.
12/20/2009 10:18 PM
Who says I can't have it all?! jk

I still don't think I can pick either ole d. Ath, while important, without sufficient speed the player, imo, wouldn't be that great.

I think SP is most important for PGs, SGs it being very important but if you can get a guy with ridic ath at D2 and D3 it will offset a average to slightly below average speed. For example I had a guy who had 92ath and 61sp on a D2 team and he averaged 12 points a game and shot over 50% his junior season. His numbers were very similar after I and another coach took over for his senior year. For the SF I think it's really close, I have a guy on my current D2 team that has 81ath/45sp and over his first 3 seasons he is shooting 49% from the field and last season shot nearly 52% while scoring 8 points a game off the bench. I do think speed is slightly more important for a SF than ath is, I still would not take a SF unless I thought his ath would reach 60 (in D2, 45-50 in D3). Ath is too important to rebounding to have an unathletic SF.

i only really know the press, but there (regardless of offense), i would take spd over ath in my sg and pg, and its not even close. i would take spd over ath in my sf, and its still not really close, but closer than my 1 and 2.
