Am I inexperienced? Did I overschedule?

Am I doing something wrong? All feedback welcomed, good and bad.

You are getting lit up on defense. Maybe stick with M2M until your press iqs get higher. You are playing a combo with C iqs in the press. That could be part of it.

I would also start May and Filson at guards instead of May and Allen.

You only have 3 players over 70 speed and are trying to run a press? That is the biggest problem I see.

I ran the first 6-7 games in M2M

Other than your one contributing freshman, the other 4 freshman are averaging 32 out of a possible 200 minutes, so don't see that as being the issue.

I don't claim to be a D-1 expert, but can tell you it's not due to lack of inexperience from your players.

I agree with everyone here, and again don't claim to be an expert. The ath/spd is okay, but not good enough to run a press. Definitely man to man.

Also, Filson is by far your best 3 pt shooter. Set him to +2, keep him at the SG spot and up his distro.

Limit your 3's from your SF.

Ironically, your freshman are also some of your best rebounders. Maybe experiment by giving them a few more minutes. Right now, you're lacking rebounding depth from your upper classmen.

How many of your opponents you played ran a press? Your teams overall speed is not good enough to compete on a high level. No matter how good your teams DE ratings are if the kids don't have the ability to guard a player it doesn't matter how willing they are to play DE.

5 of my 6 losses were to M2M teams. I am 1-1 vs. the Press.

I guess my best advice to you is to switch your D based on your opponent. Even with the low IQ's don't be afraid to switch to zone.

I hate to sound negative, but you will probably have a very difficult time matching up with teams in the Pac 10 with this squad. Experiment, use it as a learning curve and maybe play for next season. Just doesn't seem like you have the right combination of players.

UCLA, the team you're playing tonight is very very good on D, but not very fast, you may want to push the tempo a bit, use your bench and slow it down on defense.

You asked for advice and that is what I gave you. I feel your team is slow.

Tempo has absolutely nothing to do with pushing or not pushing the ball (or the speed at which your team plays) it only decides how quick/long your team waits in the shot clock to put a shot up.

That is correct, it is not a fastbreak offense. However, I thought uptempo was pushing the ball up the floor to a degree. I wouldn't consider uptempo walking the ball up the floor. For whatever reason, our teams have always shot the ball better from the floor using uptempo than average or slow down.

If uptempo is just taking the quick shot, shouldn't shooting percentages be lower, since you aren't looking for the best available shot?

Small sample size, however after 15 games played, 7 of the top 10 teams at D-3 with the highest FG% run an uptempo offense.
